No. I never could do it! When my son was younger he used to cry and cry at bed time and I'd go straight up there and rock him till he fell asleep and quietly put him down in his crib, if he woke up I'd do it again. I could never let him CIO. He's 2 and a half now and doesn't cry like that at bedtime anymore...but if my husband and i have another I will rock that baby to sleep too!

It wasn't right for my family. I NEVER let my son cry it out. I ALWAYS picked him up, but then again, he never cried for no reason. He was always hungry. Even when he just stopped when I held him, he needed my comfort. I don't believe you can spoil an infant. Maybe I was just lucky, my son never had colic, always slept at night (only needing a feeding/diaper change, but slept through the night at 7 weeks), but I never, ever let him CIO.

Now he's almost five and is SO independent. I actually wish he were more clingy   I got a lot of smurf from people, but whatever. It worked out great for us.

Every baby is different and every stuation is unique. MOST babies learn to self-soothe and get themselves to sleep by the time they are 6 months. SOME dont. At some point, if the baby isnt getting the sleep it needs, it is in the baby's best interest to CIO. But, it's for when all else fails.
