I don't think you automatically educate your kids better by getting a job. I also don't think you automatically educate your kids better by staying home with them. Depends on the person.

I think a better question would be: Do educated parents educate their child/children better?
The reason why I think that is a better question is because you don't need to be a high school grad to work or even have a GED. I also believe that it is both of the parents responsibilities to teach their children not just the mothers.

Quoting MommyToABella:" Do working moms educate their kids better?"

Hm well I'm a stay at home mom...and my son is advanced for his age....his doctor said he's at a four year olds level. He is 2 and a half and can write almost all his letters (he's been learning a letter a day..he knows how to write from A to Q right now tomorrow he will learn R. I spend alot of time reading and working with him.

I don't think working moms educate their children better but I don't think stay at home moms educate their children better then working moms. I think it depends on the Mom and how much time she spends helping her children learn and all that. So I think it just depends really...I don't think there should be a war between working and non working moms.

This is going to sound lik SUCH a bitch thing to say and I admit I'm generalizing big time. But in my honest opinion I feel like most SAHMs stay at home because they aren't qualified for jobs that pay more than the child care would cost. There are a ton of exceptions but I'm comfortable saying that the average SAHM isn't as educated as the average working mom. And with that logic isn't educating their child on the importance of furthering your education and being independent, which working moms do by leading by example.

Excellent point, my response was directed more towards older children, when you deal less with ABCs and more with algebra and calculus, and real life lessons about independence and accountability, socialization and motivation.

I've never thought of it like that. I just assumed most SAHMs had husbands/SOs that could afford that situation. It's a luxury they can afford. WMs either enjoy working too much to leave it or cannot afford to be a SAHM.

Which are my exceptions, for sure! But (especially on here) I see SO many SAHMS (more than not) struggling to make ends meet, and when a job is brought up it's always "I would make less than I'd pay for daycare" which leads me to the assumption that they don't have an education past highschool.

Plus I'm bias in the fact that I went to school for something I LOVE, it's my passion, so no amount of kids would make me want to stop doing it. Obviously some people would rather be at home with kids even though they went to school and got a degree, but I wouldn't say they're the majority.

Well that's not true. Lol
My mom got offerd a great job...she just wanted to stay home with us and my dad wanted her to aswell so she declined the job offer (she could have been a chef at one of the top restraunts). They both felt it was best for the family. She ended up staying home and after school she'd help us with our school work and was there to help us grow and what not and I personally loved having her be a stay at home mom and feel I was educated more because of it.
When we left and grew up she ended up getting a job as a teacher.

I miss working. I didn't choose to be a SAHM this year, but things worked out that way. I turned down an excellent teaching job for a job at the airport (I want a break from teaching) and the job at the airport still isn't open yet. I was supposed to begin in February!

I do some translating though, but I miss working everyday.

What's not true? The part where I said that this was a blanket statement referring to every woman who's expelled a human being? Or wait.. I'm pretty sure I said that there was tons of exceptions.

For my family my husband and I both decided we feel being a stay at home mom is best. (noticed I said for my family) We see how much my son benefits from it. I loved having my mom home with my as a child and I feel it really helped me. I have dyslexia and my mom is the one who helped me overcome and do better...not my teachers.

Saying that some stay at home moms are lazy and don't try and help their children learn and work harder with them and whatnot.

I don't think it's black and white though and I don't think there should be this non working moms vs working moms that I see alot on BG.
