Quoting SmashleynSmallyPants:" thats what I would like to see happen.   Plus my mom is always bringing treats over when she visits ... [snip!] ... diet. She's like "I ate my snack can I have some gummybears now?" I'm like "thats not how it works hunny" = meltdown lol ughhh"
The children we do this with are older (10, 12, &14) and they have very expensive taste in toys, clothes, ect. despite the fact that they dont get an allowance at home and the fact that their mother doesnt have a job and there for has no money. When they where younger we would just go out and buy them things because we felt bad for them since they didnt have toys and such at home eventually they began to think we owed it to them to do this for them. So we explained to them that Uncle Billy works his ass off for his money to buy the nice things we have and if they wanted nice things it was time for them to work for their money. When we used to give them money they used to just blow it on stupid things now that they have to actually work for their money I see them saving money and actually valuing their money and the things they buy with it.

My kids get $50.00 a week for chores. They are 10 and almost 4. They have their own bank accounts and are learning the value of earning money by working and how to save. They also can spend it whenever and however they want. My 10 yr old has learned the hard way on wasting money and now saves....she just recently discovered she has $1900 in the bank lol and wants to save for her license in 6 yrs and her own car lol

I think its great to teach kids how to earn money and save money lol IMO.
