posted 21st Jun '12
What is a high temp for a almost 4 week old baby? My babys temp was 99.4 should i worry or no?? Im a first time teen mom and dont have a clue. I looked on google and it said the rectal one was 100.4 but i dont do it that way, the doctor told me not to. So should i worry or no?

first make sure baby isnt over dressed. if baby is too warm they can have an elevated body temp. after 30 minutes check temp again

I wouldn't worry too much honestly. that's not even a degree and it's not exactly cold outside.

call your pedi and that should ease your mind   let your LO hang out in a diaper for a while

If you take the Babus temp under the a arm add 2° for an actual temp..

rectal temp is the most accurate. Hospital and pedi told me it's not a "fever" untill it's 104. then bring them in. But at 100 I give tylenol, strip them down and try to keep them cool.

Yeah, but her LO is only 4 weeks. I was told under 2 months 100.4 is a fever and you don't give one that young tylenol, you have to bring them in.

Some say you add a degree if you take it under there arm, but then sometimes they will tell you not to add anything. But, I do know rectal temp is the most accurate. I have always took DD's temp that way. If you want to be sure just put a little vaseline on the thermometer and take it rectally. Just put the tip of the thermometer in there, you don't have to stick it far at all and it won't hurt them. If you don't want to try that, just call the pedi and tell them what the temp was when you took it under his arm and tell them that he feels warm and see what they think you should do.
