I would think you gave him free milk when you had 3 and a half kids with him. He's using you. If he really loved you he would've left his wife first before getting with you. There's no excuse not even for a sick child to stay together.

I want to assume they were together before. But hell once he tied the knot with someone else she should have only been civil because of the kids.

Firstly, do not get involved with a married man. It's never a good idea. There is a good chance he will go back to his wife. Wait until the divorce is finalized before getting into anything serious. Secondly, you can't demand marriage from him when he's already married to someone else. If he's planning on seriously getting divorced, he is not thinking about getting married to someone else.
