gestational diabetes

posted 8th May
My doctor's office called me this morning with the results of my 3hr glucose screening. All of my values, evening my fasting value wuz HIGH.   My fasting wuz: 109, 1hr: 204, 2hr: 200, 3hr: 190. The nurse said my fasting should of been: 105, 1hr: 190, 2hr: 165, and 3hr: 145. They diagnosed me with gestational diabetes. yikes!!   I'm supposed to go back to the doctor and have education on it, plus the diet, and how to monitor my blood sugar at home. The reason y I have this, is, diabetes runs on my dad's side of the family. My blood sugar wuz fine b4 I wuz pregnant. This is my 1st child. Is anybody out there going thru this too, and got any advice/info that could help me? Right now..I'm a little scared and nervous.

Same, I was diagnosed GD. Diet didn't work so I'm now on pills to control my blood sugar. It is annoying but nothing too drastic. I think the worst part is you feel so tired all the time and need to drink water so much - dry mouth!!! My dad has type II so wasn't so shocked the I got GD. If you end up needing meds they will monitor you more frequently ie. checkups and nonstress test / listening for babies heart beat etc. Sucks that you are evenMORE restricted by what and how much you can eat but keep in mind it is temporary.

i'm waiting on my results from my 3 hour test today.. I really hope that it comes back okay, because I think I'd die if I couldn't have cake for 3 months

I have it.. I was told that i have GD at like 28 wks i believe.. I was very worried and very upset about it at first, but im okay with it now.. The diet is not as bad as what you may think.. I have kinda got use to it myself.. Dont get me wrong, I cant wait until I can have a couple good warm freash cookie after he is born lol... Since being on the diet i have not gained any weight either.. But my Dr is not worried about the weight, she said its because of the diet and that i am probably lossing weight but the baby is growing so my weight is staying the same.. And I went to the Dr monday and he weights 3 pounds 15 ozs and she said thats a perfect weight.. So just hang in there its not as bad as what you think, and with a controled diet it can be managed most of the time

BTW.... you can still have cake.... just 1/10th of a slice LOL and it takes up your 'quota' for the snack you are allowed. Admittedly not good for you and baby, but if it drives you nuts not being able to eat it you always have the option of of doing that. Or you can do what my dad does with foods he can't eat... chew it up, enjoy it and spit it out

Yeah you can still have them things, but its kinda not worth it to me in my eyes.. Its like why would i want like a half of a cookie for a snack when i can have10 -11 crackers with cheese lol... Oh thats soo funny, I dont think i have enough self control to spit it out after i have been chewing on it lol...

Thanks u guys for the advice and info. I'll take that into consideration. I appreciate it!!  Right now, I'm not in a particularly good mood cuz my hubby and I applied for food stamps....we were DENIED.   At my in-laws house (where I live) there are some foods on the diet I can eat...I don't know what I'm going to do about getting the good nutritional foods I need.   My hubby and I are struggling with $ paying the bills and especially, tackling these outrageous gas prices...so that leaves us little $ for foods I need.   The majority of the time the foods are fattening and have a lot of sugar to where I can only eat a smidgen of that my father-in-law gets for this household.   I may have to have some type of med to take to keep my blood sugar down.
