re: Fast Food allowed to encourage overeating

Quoting 55 days to go!:“ i have watched super size me and i do agree that mcdonalds and fast food is disgusting, tastes good but ... [snip!] ... most part, and it really opened my eyes to the fast food phenomenon but i think it could have been a little more reasonable.”

I think it's an integral part of a child growing up in the 21st century to know how to make healthy decisions: exercising, cooking at home, and how to make good decisions out in the world. Eventually your child will be a teenager and a young adult and they will have to go out and buy cheap food. Everyone does it and your child is no different. So to set them up to make WISE, cheap, fast food decisions that I'm positive they;ll eventually have to make, one has to teach them. That's not to say feed them McD every week, because that's certainly not my point, but DO bring them to McD or Chik-fil-A [which tends to be "healthier"] and teach them how to make better choices at those places. And fruit to fries is better anyday.

I think it's unfortunately senior citizens have to eat fast food constantly but think about how they grew up. Eating healthy wasn't that big of a deal until "recently". Back when they were growing up counting calories was never a part of their day-to-day life. It's the same thing with racial prejudice: it was how they were raised.
Anyhow, I'm sure there ARE people who eat fast food constantly. I have a friend who does and he's is very big.

Seniors didn't have to watch what they ate back in the day because they were active and food wasn't filled w/additives and perservatives like it is now. There weren't 5000 TV channels, and the internet, and video games, hell, some of them didn't even have cars. Or bathrooms in the house.

The point I'm trying to make isn't that eating healhty is hard lol, Im trying to get the point across just how disgusting fast food is in total, with or without their attempts for healthy food.
I haven't had fast food in over 3 years, and I don't miss it. I don't find the need to eat at those places when I'm on the go, or in a hurry, because I know what they make their food out of, and to imagine actually eating that crap, and what your body does to struggle to digest those toxins.. I'm good thanks lol

What makes me sad when I see them eating out every meal, is that obviously they don't have anyone in their lives to make sure they have what they need in their homes. It's scary to see little old widowed ladies who shouldn't even be driving themselves, in the drive thru, not knowing even how to use one! Or poor old men who don't kow how to prepare a meal for themselves and their wife has passed, or maybe is in a home.

When we go to taco bell we usually get two soft tacos for both of us, and we are chubby people, Id hate to see what we would look like if we indulged a little more.

The intent of that movie was not to show how much damage could be done in 30 days soley eating fast food (although that is what he did). The point was to show how dangerous fast food can be and the effects it may have on the body. Dude didn't have time to do a longitudal study on the effects of fast food. If he made a movie eating fast food a few times a week over the course of a year, no one would care. He went balls to the wall. I think it shows people the dangers, at least to take them into consideration.

Eating healthy isn't necessarily hard, but it is more expensive. A double cheeseburger costs $.99, plus tax. A salad cost about $5. If you are on a budget and want a quick meal, then the burger will be more finacially appetizing.

What really grinds my gears is that fast food is becoming cheaper than grocery food items, that doesnt make a lot of people want to stay home and cook healthy home cooked meals.

if you don't eat processed food or fast foods for a good long while (as i hadn't when living in austria), you can really really really taste the chemicals and processing when you finally do eat it... it coats your mouth and started giving me a headache when i ate some taco bell soft taco-- i had two bites i think and ended up throwing it out. the nacho cheese topping was doing some creepy dance on my pallet that i couldn't handle.

also, i was really excited to move near a safeway (like a block away) -- so convenient right? but as i've turned into a label-reading nazi (during pregnancy and now from force of habit), i've found that every loaf of wheat/whole grain bread they sell there also has sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup.

i don't eat whole wheat bread to get my sugar fix-- i eat it for protein and grains.

and it's impossible to find a box of cookies that doesn't have high fructose corn syrup. criminey, how hard is it to just use normal ol' sugar??

well, the incorporation of massive grocery stores and restaurant chains in america has driven the food makers out there to make everything highly preserved and to substitute hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup for naturally occurring fats and sugars, b/c they last longer while retaining the formulated taste and texture of the food products-- since they have to be mass produced and distributed over thousands of miles (here in this massive country).

not to mention the things they do to our fruits and vegatables in order to make them look good and BIG -- i have the hardest frikkin' time finding decent flavorful tomatoes (thanks to all the fun growth hormones and genetic modification they've got going on w/ almost all mass-produced fruit companies)...

truth is, i should just be slightly less lazy and drive to the local farmer's market, but safeway is just a block away, soooo... yeah, eating truly healthy foods is a challenge for me like it never was in austria (where they use their local farms to stock the chain grocery stores and don't have a drop of sugar in their whole grain breads).

maybe w/ all the damned preservative we consume we'll all live longer... the more likely scenario: our bodies will take longer to decompose if we don't get cremated when we die.

wow, i went morbid quick!

My dad grows tomatos hydropontically and sells them to all the grocery stores within a 3 hour radius.   No hormones in those tomatos.
