Temper Tantrums

posted 21st Jun '12
So this is for a child with special needs, please don't judge I'm trying everything I can.

Naturally, school is out for summer, and Jacob is on his absolute worst behavior ever. We're back to huge temper tantrums in the morning and unfunctional days again.

Yesterday it was because he "didn't have enough shorts to pack for the 7 days and 7 nights he would be in California" so he threw his dresser drawers(he doesn't even leave till tomorrow!) So I moved his dresser into our room and he needs to use it nicely.

Today it was because his socks didn't fit. Which I went to him and explained to him that it's ok if our socks don't fit. Mommy just bought him NEW socks that did fit, and we can put the old ones in a pile and throw them away. Which then escalated the temper tantrum because we can't throw ANYTHING away. So he proceeded to try and throw his mattress, which he can do. So I moved it out in the hall.

That made it worse and he decided to, on purpose, break his dad's Marine Corps photo. I called his dad to have his dad talk to him about it, how he doesn't like Jacob breaking his stuff. Eventually Jacob gave in and found another sock laying on the floor. but it's frustrating.

He now doesn't have a door, no dresser, and no mattress. He can't move the bed frame so it's still there.

I can't take him to the store, or to the park, or ANYWHERE, which is doubly frustrating because he needs heavy work activities but once he leaves the house, he starts tackling his sister, chasing her, and just torturing her. Because she's only 2 and 1/2 she freaks out starts running for me, and eventually will trip and fall. She'll slap him hard too, and he won't leave her alone. She's even terrified.

I have tried calling several places to see what resources are out there for us. But there just isn't anything here. Like at all. So we're SOL with no resources. And if it gets to bad, we may have a repeat of another head split open(he threw a toy and split my daughter's head open when she was 8 months old), because now we have a new baby sitting around the house.

I have no idea what to do with him. And I'm trying EVERYTHING.

Any suggestions? He's 6, has SPD, Autism, ADHD, a behavioral disorder, and a learning delay(including speech). Any activities would be great, and also remember I have 3 other little ones too.

Yeah we seen one of those. And he told us nothing was wrong with Jacob. It took 2 years later and more temper tantrums and destroying school classrooms before we got a diagnosis of autism.

My MIL ordered him a body sock and my husband is supposed to be setting up OT through his insurance but he "keeps forgetting"

I want to hire someone but I can't find a program that someone could donate their time, I can't afford anyone.

I nagged enough today and he called. Our insurance doesn't cover OT. Last year our insurance was going up and his company needed to cut cost. So they cut our insurance gave us minimal insurance. We pay everything up to 5000 and then they pay 20 %. Our last insurance covered 20 visits and they we paid.

Anyways getting to the point. Everyone's booked out for the summer.   We called to late. And there's no point really in getting him in during school when he'll be receiving OT everyday at school.

We're going to try and find things to do at home for OT. Today I bought him birdseed. My MIL bought him a body sock. My dad is giving me 50 to buy more OT stuff to try and see if we can "derail" him since we're screwed for the summer.
