I guess you are right, but that is what most people think, I was just making a point, but I guess I'm the stupid one.=/

i can tell you this is not an easy situation to be in. my baby may have Downs. we had all the early genetic testing done and it all came back perfect. at 24 weeks two markers for Downs showed up (at this point it was far too late to terminate, had i known earlier i would have terminated). so now we are waiting on test results to deternine if our baby has Downs or not. if she does, we are considering adoption because we know there is no way to financially support a child with massive birth defects. we could not provide for her how she would need. its not something anyone ever wants to deal with.

no one is calling anyone stupid. everyone here who is saying they wouldn't keep the baby is doing what is best for them, not anything against the baby. my uncle has cerebral palsy and i've had to grow up with people being so cruel and staring at him and making comments right in front of him, it hurts me every time. i would not want to go through that with my own kid. not everyone is ignorant to disabilities, we just have our own opinions.

There's a huge array of disabilities.

Personally, I decided not to get screened for DS and whatnot because that I am OK with.

My sister was exposed to an assload of radiation while unknowingly pregnant (she was a nuclear technician). She found out she was pregnant at 6 months and told her baby may not have a brain, have extra limbs, and/or be a complete vegetable for life.

I'd have aborted.

I don't want a child who is a complete burden to society and will have a completely smurf-tastic quality of life.

Be sure to check out your resources b4 making a definate decision if finances are your main concern. SSI offers finicail help for children w/disabilties and medicaid covers most medical bills, therapy and inhome services for children w/specail needs. Prayers for your family that you wont have to make that decision and that your baby is healthy.

no problem...i have 2 children w/autism spectrum disorders so i know some of the challenges w/specail needs. I have a friend who has a baby boy w/DS. They were really stressing about how to cope financially and emotionally when the baby was born but the hospital socail worker got them connected to the right resources and their child is doing so well. He is behind by several months on all the ''milestones'' but he is happy and thriving. They have health aids come right to the house and work w/him on all the important stuff and teach my friends everything they need to know on how to care for him properly and what to expect.

I am 18 weeks pregnant with a precious baby boy who does have down syndrome. Just had a cerclage done, as we lost one at 21 weeks 4 yrs ago. In my opinion he is a baby, our baby that we tried to have for 4 yrs, I love him disability or not. Seeing him move and wave on the ultrasounds is absolutely heartwarming. I am in love and we welcome his arrival!
