He ate it ALL o_o

posted 8th May
I've been slowly introducing solids to Danny (three months old on the fifth of May), and yesterday I made this biiig (or what I thought was) bowl of rice cereal with some pear baby food mixed in. I didn't think he'd eat much and figured I'd be throwing at least half of it in the garbage, but that lil pigger finished it ALL and THEN drank 2 ounces of watered down formula (just so he didn't get dehydrated or constipated). I swear, he's going to be a bottomless pit just like his parents X_x

Hopefully he gets our high metabolisms too o:

How are (OR were?) your kids with solids when you started? How'd you teach them that the spoon isn't a nipple? I used to spoon it into his mouth and then hurry and put the pacifier in there so he'd get the idea of swallowing it. Only had to do that at two feedings, now he's got it (almost) down to an art xD

aww yay for danny!
Jaidee was 5 months when we started her on puree food and she took to it like a duck takes to water.. she picked up the swallowing really fast and even does the whole opening mouth thing

food time is awesome for us and ive even got her not touching the food/spoon or getting it all over her rather then in her.. though there has been slip ups seeing as other people let her play with it when they feed her =/ and so food time now becomes right before bath time

other then that i think i get more out of food time then jaidee as sometimes it become "one for me.. one for jaidee.. one for me.. one for jaidee" time.. i love baby vanilla custard D: last night i even ate one that was chicken, corn and noddles (jar brought lol) all over my hotdog

yummy

if he didnt I dont think its a good idea....hes only just gone 3 months right??
the fact that you had to 'teach' him to swallow by putting the pacifier in his mouth would make me question it....

just my opnion.....unless ur doc has given you the go ahead....

Faryn did really well. She likes pretty much everything, really. She just had a taste of beef the other night and she wasn't too keen on it. Actually, she gagged. Sad to say it was a really cute face she made, though. We tried the next day and mixed it with some fruit to get her used to the taste. The great thing is that she usually holds her hands out to the side unless she feels some dying need to stick her thumb in her mouth and suck it but it's not often.

My son is 4 months old and we had him on rice ceral and he loved it. BUt i thought he wasnt getting enough food cause he would only drink 4 to 5 ozs and i didnt want him to get sick or lose to much weight so we introduced solids about 2 weeks ago and he loves them and will eat a jar of the stage 1 and a 5-6 oz bottle! So he does better with the food.

I do believe Danny got his 2 month shots awhile ago and she got the go ahead to feed him once he is 3 months then   what kind of mother would Reya be if she hadn't? she's not bad mother or anything

lets hope you can now sleep better at night knowing that
just my opinion

-shrug- Our doc goes by the books similar to WIC. They believe every baby is a clone of the next. I felt Danny was ready to start trying them, and he does fine. I'm aware that their digestive system is usually not equipped to handle solids until four months, which is why he only gets rice and puree every few days.

Danny would have eventually gotten the idea without the pacifier, (even now he knows what it means when mom holds out a spoon full of food for him to see), but the pacifier made him grasp the concept easier.

Awwwww! FarynMonster, that's adorable :3 Not the gag, but the faces they make when they taste a brand new food. :3 Danny loves his pears now, but man, the very first time they touched his tongue I wished I'd had my camera, so was his face screwed up xD He didn't even bat an eye when I mixed it with rice though, I think that tamed the flavor just enough that he enjoyed it right off the bat.

LMAO Whiskey. Yes, I am guilty of 'showing' Danny what to do by taking a sample of the rice-and-pears xD That is some gooood stuff!

Yes he did, but they seem to get annoyed when I bring up any questions that don't have to do with the purpose of the appointment. like, we'll have an appointment for his development, and an appointment for his shots. If I mix the two and ask a question about, say, sitting up or how much he's drinking, they'll answer real quick in the "THIS is how you do it and you can't do it any way else" manner. really irks me. So I go by my gut feeling. I wish I could find a different doctor, but things don't work the same here. We have one clinic for all children in the area and that's it.

that i will state my opinion

and my opinion about your first post was that i felt the questioning her about whether or not she had her pedis permission to feed her son wasn't really needed and it was in fact like you were judging her

stating your opinion or not, what she asked for was 'How are (OR were?) your kids with solids when you started? ' and you questioned her? how would you feel if someone came into your thread and questioned you on your parenting ability's? i dunno about you but i would feel offended and so i went defensive.. dante's mom is my friend.

im sorry that i handled it wrong but in my opinion.. i felt i had to

As you state your opinion, she will also is what she meant.

And, she's got a good point. I posted this to see what other moms were feeding their young infants, and how that was going for them, not to have my relationship with my pediatrician questioned. Thanks for your concern, but I think I've got a handle on it

yep and you are from the Netherlands       so things are done differently in Europe. Like when I was in Germany last month they had chocolate flakes for breakfast (mixed in the cereal) starting at FOUR months and yes my baby had some. No reactions. And I brought a lot of that cereal back lol. However I only give it to her once every two weeks.
It is funny in the USA we 'wait' for things. I think people should 'wait' if there are allergies.

OP : in the Netherlands, they start at three months feeding solids? I wondered that ;)
p.s. where in Netherlands do you live? I Lived in Brussels back in 2004...visited the Netherlands many many times
