Sensory Brush

I'm trying to find Jacob some sensory tools in the hopes that I can have SOMETHING with me to calm him down. We're looking into OT for the summer since our insurance should cover up to 20 visits a year. In the hopes we can keep him occupied enough to not hurt anyone.

So I need a site with some occupational therapy tools. I can't do school work with him, he's fidigiting like crazy, and picks at things during story time. I may try to make some "big hug" shirts, and he likes "squeezes"(bear hugs.)

Have to tried making a weighted vest or cape for him to wear? That's what DS's OT recommended to DH an I.

I need to do it but haven't done it yet. I can sew so it would work. I just have to look up how much weight to put in it.

I would definitely try that then. DS hated his sensory brushes and would throw an even bigger fit and try to hit and kick while using them. And he hated the vest thing too, so we have him wearing a weighted cape and doing "heavy work" 6 times a day. I took a play cape (I think it came from a yard sale) and sewed some circle washer things inside.

My daughter goes to First Step and they used to use a scrub brush, those oval-ish shaped brushes doctors use to sterilize when washing their hands. They would take that and somewhat firmly brush her with it, if you don't press down a little it just tickles. It seemed to help her.

He likes brushing. I was at a meeting and he picked up his brush and was just brushing himself! I also found a "body sock" which is like a big lycra/spandex tube. Which he loved when he went to OT. I know you can use anything, we haven't done "heavy work" in a while. But it might be good.

He likes hard stimulation, big squeezes etc..

We used it a few times at OT when we went a year ago, but then he lost interest. I've just noticed that he's picked up again.

I like the monster feet for hard work. But 2 things. Would they work with Jacob's disabled arm? I don't know if he'd be able to hold it up enough to make it "go" then it might not last.

I have emails out to family to see if they can pitch in to help us out get some stuff.

You don't have to raise your arm much, but you do have to hold onto it to be able to move forward.. We have them I'll post a video of jamil using them, and you can be the Judge of that

He can only lift his arm holding something to about his bellybutton near to his chest but not much higher. If it has to have any kind of pressure to get it going, he gets mad because he can't make it work. I really love those things and looks like a great hard work activity!

We use the brushes that they use to scrub with in the OR. Our OT kept trying and trying to find things that Kaden wouldnt gag at or throw up when touched him.
