Finding a caregive/tutor

posted 20th Jun '12
No matter what I do, it's not good enough. I really need a caregiver/tutor for my son. Not so much to take care of him, but to help me out. With 3 kids, and one that is 6 months, I can't keep him from hurting his sister. So no matter where he goes, he takes advantage of it and just beats on his sister.

I don't need it as much when he's in school, but of course school is out for summer. And I know kids will be kids and such, but today he threw his dresser drawers because I wouldn't let him pack for California(which he doesn't leave till Friday for) and yesterday I wouldn't paint Captain America's nose where the paint came off, so he threw knitting needles and a ton of buttons at me and my daughter while we were eating dinner. Plus he won't do his summer school homework when he's home. And with how far behind he was at the start of the year, he needs to keep up on it or else he's going to fall behind again.

So I really need someone here to just to keep him occupied and help with temper tantrums and school work. I've called out to lawyers about his birth injury and an SSI claim, but no lawyer will talk to me once they hear he's 6, and one lawyer, it's been a month and they STILL haven't called me back. So I gave up on the birth injury case and took a look as SSI, but the SSI lawyer said that roughly 48K which is what we make, is to much. But it's not enough to hire someone. I've called out to several special needs places but no one will tell me of free programs for kids with special needs, or even things we can apply for! The special needs places don't even know! I don't understand how there is NOTHING this state can offer us!

I've pretty much been blacklisted, and I can't work because of him anyways. I have to work special hours because he can't go to a daycare. No job wants to hire me because of him(although they don't outwardly say so.) Plus with the horrible ending to my last job, well I'm screwed as far as finding something new.

My anxiety because of everything he puts me through is through the roof, which I'm talking to a doctor about again on Friday. And the stress he puts on me and his brother and sister is just high. His sister is constantly running away from him screaming that he's going to hurt her. And we just really need someone here. But we can't afford to hire anyone.

Anyone got ANYTHING for ANYONE that I can call for the state of Washington? We need help!

It's all based in Seattle which is so far from here. That's what everyone tells me when I call. They know of tons of stuff in Seattle but nothing in the Vancouver area. It's just such a disappointment, I don't want a repeat when he split Nat's head open!

I looked on the DOH site and it's so hard to navigate I couldn't find anything at all. I'll look there too. I just remember I have to call his psych for meds. He might have a list too, I didn't think to call him.

Looks like WA doesn't have much at all except for in Seattle, CAs regional center provides respite (not that they get back to me quickly either)

Many agencies and organizations have information on respite care services. (For a referral, contact the National Respite Locator Service, operated by the ARCH National Resource Center (919) 490-5577 ). In general, seek out groups or professionals who work with children your child's age. For example, if your child is in preschool, contact the school and discuss the need for respite care with the staff. If there is a parent group associated with your school, or if there is a local parent group concerned with children who have needs similar to your child's, ask them. If your child is an adolescent, talk to the staff at his or her school or, again, identify parent groups in your area with needs similar to yours.

see that's the thing. There isn't anything for autism support HERE. In his classroom he's by himself with other special needs kids. I have no idea how he's going to even adapts next year when they drop him(assisted) into a first grade classroom. We haven't even addressed how he's going to EAT at school.

If we lived in Portland again, he'd be well taken care of they have so many resources, there is NOTHING here.

The voicemail even says that it doesn't promise a call back "I'll call back if I'm able to"

That's just great.

Well I found a good autism link and something that said a sensory center in Vancouver, and unfortunately it's disconnected, and it keeps coming up. I'm so disappointed.
