Oh well on the 6th we had food stamps so we would just spend that now were out of food and she is out of town sucks. Ill get more next month tho but she shops in the middle of the moth most of the time and spends about the same amout so about 400. But i think im going to have to go pick something up because we have no meat at all.

It can be tough, feeding a family is expensive.

I managed to get my grocery costs way down by shopping sales, buying sale items in bulk, & freezing in seperate portions. I watch the store ads like a hawk. * never remain loyal to one store. I usually will buy meat from one store because they sell really good cuts of meat for cheap & with BOGO deals, another store for produce & veggies, & another for everything else.
Living in Florida i also get really cheap seafood from the local fishing docks instead of buying it at retail price.

By doing this i slashed my grocery costs in half, & we are eating good stuff (steak, pork, chicken, seafood, fresh dairy fruits & veggies).

Also, cut out a lot of snack foods, that just drives your bill up & makes you gain weight, i save money & have lost a few pounds by cutting out chips, cookies & such, i buy ice-cream here & there as a treat for the family, but not all the time & only when it is BOGO, & stick to only buying kids snack foods like goldfish or wheat thins that i wont be tempted to get into, lol.

i do get alot of kids snacks like peach cups, tons of individual yogurts, poptarts, cereal bars, juice boxes, mini water bottles, etc i need to stop with the juice boxes and water bottles for sure, i just got in the habit out of conveience

I love the juice boxes too, i buy organic juice in bulk & it sits in the fridge forever, but if i buy a box of Capri's, they are gone in 2 days.

I think my issue is that I plan the meals before I look at the weekly store inserts so I end up buying what I need regardless of whether it's on sale or not. This week, I'm going to try to build my meals around what's on sale and see if that makes a difference.

and my daughter will not stop if she wants a drink and i cant get it for her right now, so her being able to grab a juice box if the baby is sleeping on me has been worth not hearing "mom im thirsty moooommmm im thirsty mommmmmmm im thirsty"

It really, really does! You will see the savings right away at the checkout counter.

Your welcome, also, dont be afraid to buy stuff that is more than your family can eat in one night, just portion it off & freeze it, i can make a weeks worth of meals stretch into 2 weeks of meals doing that.

with food prices continuing to go uo I have been trying so hard to lower my food bill. Its just me and my hubby that I have to cook for (my baby is only 6 weeks and BFing) and I always go over 100 sometimes 2 in ONE week. I try to plan a menu and try to use coupons and go along with the sales. I just am not good at it. I also have no idea how to do the extreme couponing thing. I dunno if you need to be in a big city to save more. Cause all we have here is super wal-mart, safeway, bashas, and IGA. We hardly get any coupons here.

we used to print out coupons like crazy at work when i was on night shift, then the manager got wind and yelled at us for using all the ink lol, so we cant anymore. that ended my couponing days. i was getting pretty good at it too. i saved 50-60 each week
