Question for all mom's trying to lose weight after having a

posted 7th May
Alrighty I had my baby Feb 20th 2008 & I waited until my 6 week checkup to start doing any kind of exercise.
I've been working out now since the beginning of April and I've already lost 15lbs. I've been dieting, and working out everyday, but I'm having a problem with one thing...my LOVE HANDLES! how in the world can I get rid of them? I seem to be losing weight everywhere else but there and its very irritating

Cardio! You can have a cut mid section - under a serious layer of fat - since there is no suchthing as spot training - the only way to melt that off is through Cardio - and keep up with ab work so when the fat does melt off you will already be nice and tone. You may have heard this a million times but it is true - nine months on nine months off.

Grrr. That's so frustrating!   I keep reminding myself that it took nine months to get like this so I should be patient but it kills me when I see those movie stars that look so amazing weeks after giving birth. I'm working out as much as possible considering that I have a baby and I'm tired, but it's frustrating.

OAN - swimming is an awesome way to get in shape (assuming you have someone to watch the baby for a while... )

A LOT of the stars admit to wearing Spanx AND the ones that get elective C-sections - also get tummy tucks at the same time. You may have a body that is unfamilar to you at the moment- but look what it did for you! I totally undertsand how you feel - I gained55 pounds with my daughter and within 18 months of having her I lost 95 pounds. (I am six one and went from a size 22 to a fit size 10) No weird pills or special diets - just healthful eating, breastfeeding, and lots and lots of exercise. I am now pregnant with my second - and I weigh 40 pounds less now than when I got preggers with my two year old. One day at a time! I promise you will see results and be back into your skinny jeans in no time!

Wow, that's awesome! I'm 5'10" so I just feel SO huge right now. Any exercises you did that seemed to work really well?

Right now, I walk everyday and I do at-home exercises (sit ups, squats, donkey kicks, and lots of stretching), plus I'm going to start swimming - hopefully I'll be able to go twice a week, starting this weekend....

Youe sound like you are doing great! Swimming is great and so is walking - as long as you push yourself to walk asfast as possible for a long period of time - so you can see results! Fitnessmagazine.com has a lot of exersice ideas on streaming video so you can watch how to do them. The first 6 monthsI lost 40 pounds because I joined a stroller fitness class called Strollerstrides. I went 3 days a week for the first two months then 5 days a week pretty much every week until my one year point. I enjoyed it because I was still learning about being a mommy so I just had to show up and not think about what to do for the next hour. It was great! The best $50 dollar a month investment in myself - and a good jogging stroller, and really good shoes. The best part - I didn't have to pay someone to watch her while I worked out - and I didn't have to pay for a gym membership and daycare - which is more than the strollerstrides membership. Still attending the classes, I then started to run and lift weights after my one year point. (I was NEVER a runner - and now I can not imagine not running!) My husband and I also changed a lot of habits and we now run in races once a month and go biking one to two times a week with Meredith in the bike trailer. Once I incorporated the weight training and running - everything really melted off and I toned up very nicely. My abs never went back to normal (they look like a trash bag just sagging and taped to me) - but I was overweight to begin with and it is nothing a tummy tuck can't fix after this baby ;-) Good luck to you!

Thanks a lot. You've definitely motivated me! (Sorry to the OP - I didn't mean to hijack your thread). I just looked into Stroller Strides - there are some locations near me...yay! OK, speaking of which, I'm off to go for a walk!   BTW, I noticed you're training to become a fitness instructor. That's awesome! Good luck! (It's something that I've toyed with doing in the past. Maybe now's the time - get in shape and to actually do it...something to motivate me).
