question for those who have mult early MCs

posted 19th Jun '12
I got pregnant in Dec '11, had to have a DnC since my body ignored that there was no living baby. I was 6w 4d based off growth and when it had stopped.

yesterday I was suppose to be 5w 3d and started cramping and bleeding. So badly that I knew there was no way I would remain pregnant.

I am RH- and my DH is RH+, I was concerned with needing a rogahm shot and my OB refused to see me. They told me I needed to go to the ER. I did, miscarriage was confirmed and was given the shot. The Dr said that issues of being sensitized to the RH+ is why he sees alot of early MCs. I need to find out IF I am sensitized. Im wondering why my body cant carry a baby past 5/6 weeks....Im devastated. The Dr said if I try again, id need weekly monitoring from the time I miss a period on. What can they even do to help you keep a pregnancy? Im so lost, and so very sad. I feel like ive lost the ability to have another child.

Did you have the shot after your first miscarriage?

If you've had the shots when you've needed them (after delivery/bleeding/miscarriage) the chances of being sensitized are very low. If the ER doctor truly suspected sensitization, he should have ran a titer right then instead of adminstering Rhogam when it may have not even be useful.

As for your question about what would happen if you ARE indeed sensitized.. that all depends on your titer levels. You will be monitored extremely close throughout your entire pregnancy, for signs of anemia and such in the baby. There's not really anything they can do to ensure you won't miscarry again because of that.

With my first, at 28w and post delivery. I was told that while I was still under local after the DnC I received it then as well.

I dont know if the c-section with my first let our blood cross and the subsequent shots did nothing since im already sensitized?

I just dont know what other reason there could be that doesent allow me past 6w

If you were sensitized, it absolutely WOULD affect you past 6 weeks. The first trimester really would be the least of your worries.

Good to know, thank you.

No problem. We're in the process of figuring out if I have been sensitized, so I can definitely understand the worry you're feeling right now. If you have any doubts about it call your doctor and see if they will run titers in a few months.

I will do that. I need to know and at least have that question answered. After the first, everyone said, oh it happens all the time blah blah blah...And now, I just feel like there is something wrong.

Did you ever have any answers as to why you had losses? With my first, I had asked about analyzing fetal tissue to see if it could give us an answer and the dr said they would not.

It's going to be hard for you to find a doctor that will do any sort of testing until you've had 3 losses, unfortunately.

I'm confident that my early miscarriages were chromosome related. My first was at 5w and second at 6w.
My stillbirth was a cord accident.

I did have testing done, and the only thing they could find was MTHFR. But since I'm hetero for it instead of homo, it's not really a reason as to why I've lost babies.

Sorry I havent been on to respond.... well, met with a new Dr at the obgyn practice I go to. She was incredibly nice and explained things to me. She said she wouldnt wait till I had another loss to test me if I wanted to do so. She said what we could do is test for auto-immune issues. she told me she had two losses after her first and as a precaution, next preg she got on progesterone "just to be safe" and had a healthy baby...Im hoping something like that will work for me aswell.

Thank you, hope things go well you you aswell.

I actually declined the testing..for now..I bruise so easily, and im still covered from blood draws. Im just tired of being poked for now. And somehow, I just dont feel like its an autoimmune issue. Ive thought, and even more so after what ive just read...That it may have something to do with Mirena. I had Mirena in untill Sept. of "11. I didnt have a period the whole time I had it in, then took a while to get one again and it was very very light. I read via google many women having MC after MC post mirena. Im wondering if it did damage to me? maybe aftered my hormone production/levels?
