bullying in middle school

posted 7th May
My 12 year old daughter came home from school yesterday and told me her best friend was beat up by 5 girls who were older .... it started with only one fighting her then when she started fighting back 4 more jumped in ..... does anyone ever remember teen girls being so vicious??/ With all the anti bullying strategies in place in elementry school .... how is it these girls go to jr high and turn so wicked.....
my girl is standing behind her friend through all this and im so proud of her but it scares me that she could be walking around her neighborhood and get jumped out of nowhere....

I was always picked on in middle school, till I learned to pick back, and then people just left me alone.
Girls were always vicious, its all a matter of status almost, if you were seen to be strong, then people respected you more.
But if you were always the underdog, getting picked on, then people just felt bad for you.

Reminds me of me when I was in middle school. -.- I was tiny and wimpy, and I was changing from my gym clothes to my regular clothes in a bathroom stall. These girls thought I had moved their clothes from the stall..but ehh, no..there weren't any in there when I went in. They kicked the door open to jump me, (these girls weighed at least 500 bls more than me put together) but fortunately they just knocked my head off with the stall door instead. lol I ended up getting knocked unconscious and fell backwards onto the toilet. That was a bad day, and I'd be on them with a baseball bat if they'd tried that again now. >=D

Everyone picked on me. When I was jumped it was only two to one, but they were many, many times larger than I was. It was scary. =/

Oh god yes it as like that, girls fight in gangs lol.
I always had the problem s with the schools I went too, henever I had been bullied, and I would tell a teacher, they told me just to inore them, to a point where I was skipping school to avoid the girls that were bothering me.
Even after things got to a violent point, and I would get angry over how this whole thing could have been avoided if they had just dealt with the girls who were bothering me, the teachers, and principal would just brush thngs under the rug.

the elementry school has a really good anti bullying policy .... but when the kids leave that school and go to jr high ... its all seemingly thrown out the window ... what im thinking of doing is going to the next parent council meeting and asking how to make that different ...

I never really had a bullying problem. It was probably because I was really tall and developed compared to all the other girls in middle school. I stopped growing in the 5th grade. I've been 5'3" since then.

I think thats a lot of the problem here ... in Canada we have that youth offender bullshit law ... you commit a crime under age 18 and you get a slap on the wrist and sent home to your parents .... if you end up in court you get community service and all is forgotten when you become an adult,,, And this is for committing major crimes like arson and armed robbery .... Kill someone and you get 6 months in the youth centre it is disghusting ... almost makes it pointless to say anything since the law enforcement peoples hands are tied round here....
