ER worthy?

posted 18th Jun '12
Ok, I apologize before hand if this seems dumb. My DD, 3 weeks on Wednesday, has thrush. Pretty thick on her tounge, but it hasn't caused a rash. Yet. She doesn't act uncomfortable, it just looks horrific and seems to be spreading around her mouth rather quickly. I called her pedi, the earliest appt is tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. I scheduled it, but was just wondering what you moms would do. My other 2 kids were older when they dealt with it, so I'm a little more worried because she's so young.

Long story short: ER or not?

It will be okay until tomorrow at 4. She will be fine to wait since it isn't bothering her anyway.

Nope! Are you breastfeeding? If you are, have her pediatrician give you a presciption as well, as it will pass back and forth if you are not treated together.

No reason to go to the ER.

I would do the normal things take a warm cloth wipe her mouth and cheeks out after feeding.and wait for the dr. My kids never had rashes with thrush.I wouldn't waste an er visit

My daughter had it at a few weeks old but it didn't bother her at all. We didn't even know she had it until a nurse pointed it out to us.

I wouldnt go to the ER. Theres all kinds of nasty germs there plus the long wait.. if she isnt uncomfortable or anything I would just wait for your appointment   Then she isnt at risk of picking up something from the waiting room!

Thanks ladies! This paranoid mama thing was getting the best of me. It just looks so awful! I can deal with the itchy, red nipples that I have, but her poor little mouth and lips are what have me debating the trip.

But, like previously stated, it isn't bothering her, she's eating fine, and it's not bleeding. Again, thanks for the feedback.

I'm surprised they didn't just give you a prescription. I had to call the after hours line when dd got thrush (I didn't know it was thrush at the time) to ask for help because her mouth was clearly hurting when she ate. They ask a couple questions and told me it was thrush and they would call in the prescription. We didn't even have to bother with a dr appt.

If you have thrush as well, you both need to be treated or she will just get it again...PLEASE make sure they are treating you both.
