how much is he supposed to be eating?

Hi, im a young, new mother and my baby just turned 3 weeks yesterday. I was just wondering how much they eat by then? My dr said that as long as his tummy can take it, its ok. But he eats about 6 oz. per feeding. Is this normal??

If he's eating and seems full when he's done then it's enough. Also he needs to be doing a good amount of wet diapers everyday. I'm sure he's eating enough.

he does pee alot but recently he really hasent had big poops like he did when he was 1 and 2 weeks. i think hes kinda constapated. theres only a few times that he give a big poo in the last few day. and i also dont think hes feeling up to par.

DS used to smurf all the time when he was first born. Around 3 weeks old and after that he will only poop once a day if that. As long as he poops every 4-7 days that's normal, and when he does poop if it's soft then he's not constipated. How many wet diapers does he do a day?

Both of mine were eating like about the same, maybe more? But, have you put cereal in the formula? I got told to do that by the doctor so they may get more full.

when he pees its pretty wet. and when he poops and actually does its a pretty good one. but he only does "good ones" about once or twice a day if that.

He sounds like he's fine to me. Also, DON'T feed him rice cereal until you talk to your pedi.. Mine doesn't recommend it. But if you're worried about it then you can always call your pedi and tell them your concerns.

I gave mone cereal without asking the doctor smd they said that was exactly what they were going to say to do anyway. A Children's Hospital even told my mom it was fine. =]

OMG you are giving ur 3 week 6 oz every feeding? thats way too much his tummy is the size of his little fist he is going to be so big imagine u are giving 6 oz now but when he hits all these upcoming growth spurts in just a short time how much are u going to give him then the bottles go up to what 9 or 10 oz be realistic.. u are a young mom so u want him to be full and happy i know but u r overfeeding him ..... my 4 1/2 month old is only a about 5 oz now and was born 10 pds he was a big boy and now is 16 pds and i think about increasing his milk but slowly ... i tried going from 4.5 oz to about 6 or 6.5 and his tummy couldnt take it if its not too late u can prob slowly decrease his milk... idk its ur baby ur choice but remember he is only 3 weeks old when he gets older how much is he going to be drinking 2 months at 8 oz or more?

mine was drinking 8oz at 1 mo. and he seems fine

OP, as long as he's eating & having enough wet diapers he should be fine. What my pedi told me is that DS should be eating half of his body weight in oz every feeding..

8 oz at 1 month? but why? his tummy is soooo small for all that milk how big is ur baby ? he has more growth spurts he has to hit how much do u plan to give him then? im not trying to be rude or anything im just asking... i never really knnew how much to give my baby either but even giving my 4 month old 6 oz every 3 hours the nurses told me i was giving my baby too much and suggested i decrease his milk..

hes only 8 ounds. when he was born he was 7 lbs. and my dr said as long as his tummy can take it its fine. but hes only eating about every 3 hours and it takes him a while to actually drink all of the 6 oz. he eats about 4 oz then leaves 2 oz for later when he wants to be toped off. (he sleeps better that way.)

Yea i dot doubt it takes him forever to eat it my son was 2 weeks eating 2 oz and it took forever even at 4 oz b.c that's alot of milk in his little tummy

i called a nurce today and she said it is a little to much to be feeding him. she said 3-4 oz every 3 hours is good though, hes gunna be one pissed off baby.
