Question about glasses

posted 18th Jun '12
I got my eyes checked in 2007 & was prescribed glasses. I got them rechecked at the same place in 2009 and was told my current prescription was fine & didn't need new lenses. I missed my 2011 appointment because I was pregnant at the time.

Well my current pair just broke (I knocked the smurfers into the garbage disposal while trying to make my morning cup of coffee   ) and I wanted to order some from the online place I usually get them from, but should I get my eyes looked at first to see if my prescription has changed? Also, I don't have optical/vision covered health insurance anymore, if I do need to go & get them checked anybody know how much it will run me?

Thanks in advanced & I hope you guys are having a better morning then I am

Depending on where you go it's about 90 dollars for an eye exam plus the cost of the frames and lenses.

I would get them checked first and usually the exam will run right around $100 plus the cost of the frames and lenses and that could vary alot depending on what you need and what brand of frames you get etc.

i would suggest getting them checked again since they haven't been checked since 2009. and call a walmart near you, they have pretty cheap exams and lens's

I got a contact exam at Walmart (covers glasses too) for $85. Then go to JCP and get the 2 for $99 deal.

It's likely you won't even be able to get new ones without an updated prescription. You could call around to some optometrists in your area to ask prices or try walmart.

Any idea if they can just check my eyes & tell me my new script without making me buy lenses from them?
The place I order from online the lenses & frames are only $10.

you would have to get them checked again because prescriptions are only good for 2 years, 1 year for contacts. (I work at an eye doctors)

Since its been over two years, definitely get your eyes examined again.I work for an Optometrist, and your vision changes a bit during pregnancy. Mine has quite a bit already.

Anyway, try Sears optical, target optical, Walmart optical.they're relatively inexpensive.

You don't have to get lenses from anyone. They will give you the RX if you ask for it and you can get the glasses where you want.

Yeah. Just tell them you are buying your frames online and just need a new script.

Good to know! I will call my local walmart & see when the optometrist is in. I would go to the Costco vision (it's only 20.00 for a vision check) but my membership expired a week ago! Boo! lol
