WTF is going on?

posted 17th Jun '12
Contractions with a sharp pain down towards my pelvic region and in my back... wtf does that mean? I'm also starting to sweat, and I'm incredibly nauseated.
I know I've had a baby, and I should know this, but unfortunately, I was induced with her, and didn't feel a thing.
Any help would be appreciated.

How close are the contractions? Have you been timing them? Are you dehydrated? Drink a smurf ton of water and either take a hot bath or rest on your left side and see if they go away. If they don't stop and they get worse and closer together, then go to the hospital when they're less than 5 minutes apart for over an hour.

That was me all the way! weird shooting pains in the stomach, sides and back. Sweating, felt like I was gonna puke. Start timing them yet?

have you been timing the contractions? It could be baby time!

Sounds like labor. I had similar pains in those places when I went into labor. If your contractions are 5 mins apart or less call the hospital and they will tell you to come or not.

FYI you time from the START of one contraction to the START of the next so if one starts at 10:16pm then the next one starts at 10:20pm they're 4 minutes apart, but they have to be consistent. Can't be like 10:16pm, 10:20pm, 10: 30pm, 10:33pm, 10:41pm etc. Has to be consistently the same amount of minutes apart.

I haven't been timing them. I've been having random contractions all day, but here in the last 45 minute or so, it's gotten worse.
I almost fell to my knees cooking with the pain in my pelvic region.
Scared the crap out of my husband, poor guy.

Don't base it off the pelvic pain alone. That used to happen to me ALL THE TIME after like 35 weeks and I wasn't in labor. You have to time the contractions and they have be consistently less than 5 min apart for over an hour. Consistent. Not random.

If they're random now and it's the start of labor, they will get closer together and consistent.

Definitely drink water and see what happens. This all could be from dehydration.

I've been drinking water like a fish lately, last week at the doctor I was told that it looked like I might be dehydrated. So from then on, it's been water, water, water.

Ugh, I hope it's either time, or they go away...

Thank you ladies, so much!

Contractions don't always have to be constant. My sister had similar pain for a while and all at different times.... Some 3,4,5 and 10 and had my niece!! Call the doc.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I have the same issue, went to Labor and Delivery to get check out because I actually couldn't keep water down and it was so hot today. They monitored me said I was in labor but it wasn't enough just yet to keep me, they did give me medicine to help with the nausea though, and thank goodness! Just keep timing, and it you start getting so sick that you can't keep liquids down or you are just to miserable go ahead and go in. At least they will be able to help you out with the nausea.

Like I said, they might not be constant AT FIRST, but if it's actual labor they will get consistent. If you go in when they're not constant you might still be in early labor, but chances are you're not close enough to actual be in the hospital yet and they may even send you home, that's why it's best to wait until they're consistent.

Also, we don't know the details about your sister's labor. If she was like 40 weeks and went in having irregular contractions they might've just started her on Pitocin and got her labor going which would be WHY she delivered. She may not even have been "in" labor. True labor contractions WILL be consistent.

We posted at the same time, but this is exactly what I'm talking about in my last post. No point going in if they're not consistent because unless your post dates, they won't keep you.

I knew they weren't bad enough to stay but honestly I could focus on contractions with the amount of nausea I had, I couldn't even time because it was so bad. If you don't live that far away you can at least get that relief so you can focus on the contractions you are having. But just remember that it is your body and you need to do what you feel is right so if you don't mind going in with the possibility of getting sent home, than no harm there. At least you will know you are doing okay and feel a little calmer knowing nothing is wrong.

No I wasn't saying it was wrong of you to go or anything. Just saying that was a perfect example of why it's best to wait until they're regular, but yeah if the nausea is that bad and OP is close to a hospital then why not.
