What should my 5 year old know academically?
I want to make sure my 5 year old is not behind on her learning!
So what should she already know and what should she be learning?

Mine spells his name, knows his alphabet, and can count to 20. I know there are kids out there that know more, but whatever. I know he's smart.

It really depends on whether she's pre or post K.

If she hasn't gone to Kindergarten yet, then I don't think there is much she HAS to know by that time. My nephew just finished Kindergarten and I had many parent-teacher conferences with his teacher. She just recommended preschool so that she is at least familiar with a learning environment. My nephew was kind of behind and never went to preschool. I planned all along to put her in preschool though, she starts in August. I think starting to work on colors with her is a good start. maybe just showing her the letters of her name. As long as you work WITH her at home, while she is learning at school, she'll do fine. BIL NEVER did anything school related with my nephews, so they were kind of behind. Nephews teacher sent newsletters home about the things they worked on during the week and what they would start working on the following week, so that parents could reinforce what they've learned at school, at home.
