Dating after a divorce..

posted 17th Jun '12
My husband and I just split...very mutual and friendly and very involved with the kiddos...I was with him since I was 16 so when the time comes..how do I go about meeting someone now that I've got 2 kids? I'm not looking to date for awhile for sure..I'm enjoying being single lol...but the thought does cross my mind for when the time comes...

It just happens? LOL I don't know. I met my SO at a bar (not a good place to meet people!!!!) but I had seen him around and talked to him for a while... and not going to lie... I was on the prowl.... Hunting for my next victim... LOL that back fired on me once I realized he was me.... with a penis.   LOL It will happen.

bwahaha yeah I guess I'm just curious how you date in general, since I've never really done it lol..and it just seems like it's going to be even more complicated since I've got some baggage ha

Oh.... dating after being with the same person forever is FUN! It's like you're a kid all over again but this time you are (presumably) much smarter!

When I was dating around, I only had one kid, but it cannot be that much harder with two. Not all men who say they are fine with that are, just gotta take things slow and see how it goes.

As for meeting people, I met men everywhere: supermarket, church, work, bus, bar; but the best place is through mutual friends. It's not as exciting as some stories, but that's how the majority goes. When you are all set to start dating again, let your friends know and (knowing how women are) they will be trying to set you up as hard as they can.

Here are my rules:

Rule number 1: Be safe. Don't go on any midnight walks through a quiet park with someone you don't know. As obvious as it is, I've been this stupid. Luckily, nothing happened but still, it could have. Don't get drunk or leave your drink alone or tell a first date where you live and stuff like that. Meet them there don't have them pick you up and blah blah blah. You know how to keep yourself safe.

Rule number 2: Don't look for a new husband. Just have a little fun first. Test the new waters, so to speak. Especially in your case since you've never really dated before. (Fun does not mean sex, it just means to enjoy dating. But sex is fun too!  )

Rule number 3: Don't turn a guy down just because he isn't your type. Going on one date with a nerd could either change your opinions on nerds, or it could be a bust and you'll have a "worst date story" to tell.

My SO is not my type at all, but he is so wonderful!
