Chores...

posted 17th Jun '12
What chores do you have your 4 year old and 2 year olds do? What do you think they are capable of?
My four year old Feeds and waters the dog, puts away the clean dishes and mops for me.
My two year old picks up toys and uses a paper towel and water to "wash the table"
I would like to give them both a little more responsability, but I'm not sure what to have them do. My four year old can work the vaccum but he would have to carry up and down the stairs and that scares me. There is actually a lot my four year old can do, I just don't want to give them too much to do.

Heathen is 3.5 and she sets and clears the table. She cleans up her toys at the end of the day before bed. She helps water the garden.
Those are the only things she has to do right now. But if we ask her to do anything else, she will.

My 2-yr old won't do smurf. We are on her to at least pick up the messes she makes. And at 2, I don't believe she needs to have full on chores just yet.

My 5-yr old, he helps with cleaning and dusting, because he thinks it's fun.

At two, they picked up their toys and cleared their dishes from the table. My 3.5 year old now makes his bed as well.

think a four year old mopping is a little much, at 4 and 2 i'd say just clean up their toys and keep their room clean.

Quoting Jillbill4:" think a four year old mopping is a little much, at 4 and 2 i'd say just clean up their toys and keep their room clean."

I can't even imagine how crappy a job my kid would do. I'd have to do it behind them correctly which would defeat the purpose of handing the chore over the in the first place.

My 5 year old feeds the dog everyday (she gets paid for that) and other than that it's simple helping around the house like picking up toys, setting the table some nights, and she wants to learn to fold laundry. But the dog is her only actual chore.

My 2 year old really doesn't do anything lol. I try to make her help clean up her toys, it really just depends on her mood. If she spills something (like on the table) I'll give her a rag and she'll wipe it up

Ummm my 3 year picks up his toys with my help. Picks out his clothes, grabs his towel for bath and puts his plate in the sink.
