OW.

Help? Baby is nursing plenty, but they are ginormous and super painful regardless. Pumping doesn't seem to help

This worked for me when I kept doing it.

Try not to pump too much- it will just tell your body to produce more milk, thus making you more engorged. If they hurt, you can hand express just enough to give yourself some relief. If you let the baby eat on one side per feeding, hand express a tiny bit to relieve the pain on the other side, in 24 hours or so the engorgement should go down and your boobs should regulate themselves. That happened to me last week and again this week after her 3 week growth spurt. I have to regulate them back down because she's not eating as much.

But if you pump it all out after she eats, your body will just produce that much more milk, thinking you need it.

Yeah, I think that the reason its so bad this time (wasn't at all with my first) is because I had to supplement with pumped milk while she was under phototherapy lights for severe jaundice for 13 hours (Which SUCKED). Am only pumping once a day now.

And I've tried hand expression several times, but can't seem to get the hang of it. Any tips?

With the hand expression, I'll just start massaging downward toward the nipple, in a circular motion. Then squeeze the nipple a few times (just a few- cause it hurts) and at that point I'm always so engorged it just starts coming out. So then I'll have the burp cloth underneath with one hand and with the other hand on top squeeze with both hands at the aereola and just get a rythm going. Mine always just sprays out- but I think I have an overactive letdown or something like that because it just pours out.
