Stupid question...

posted 16th Jun '12
So this is probably a really stupid question and it's embarassing to admit. But when I was in school I got into terrible eating habits, I ate out nearly every day and drank tons of sodas. Well, I cut out all eating out and soda and it's been a week now. But instead of dropping some weight I'm gaining weight. Could my body be confused and basically going into starvation mode because it's so used to having so many extra calories and I've cut back so much. Like I said it's a really stupid question but I figured I would at least stay at the same weight, not gain. Or is there something else that could be causing the weight gain?

If you're suddenly eating much less, your metabolism is probably slowing down to compensate. Start exercising, or do something to increase your energy expenditure.

I use to walk a lot and dance. It helped. I also compensated vegetables in place of other things to help wean my eating process.

id say your body is still adjusting to some major nutrient changes. i wouldnt say its going into starvation mode, more like, hanging on to all the real nutrients its getting. i think i heard that a lot of bad foods can sort of block the absorption of certain good foods into your body too.
