Don't know what else to do :(

posted 16th Jun '12
So we've been having a lot of problems with DS's belly. He'll be 4 weeks on Monday. We're not sure if he has colic, or what. A couple weeks ago, he was puking up his entire bottle. He would get really fussy after eating, and extremely gassy. No matter how many times we burped him, it didn't help. Then, he was extremely constipated and had hard poop. He would scream and scream while trying to get it out. So we switched from soy to nutramigen. Now, his poop is starting to go back to normal and he's not vomiting..but he'll wake up after 40 minutes of sleeping, screaming from tummy pains. We've switched from regular formula, to soy, and now to nutramigen. We also have been using gas drops. The nutramigen and gas drops seemed to work for a couple days, but now he's back to screaming from his stomach hurting. We constantly are patting his back, rubbing his belly, moving his legs up to his belly, and doing "bicycle kicks"..just trying to get him comfortable.

I don't know what to do   I feel so worn out, and like I'm not doing enough for him. I feel like nothing's working. I know that SO and I are both starting to feel completely helpless(on top of not having any sleep). Does anyone have any advice on what else we can try? I just want him to feel better!

TIA.

Lay him across your legs on his stomach , pat his back, and rock your legs side to side. You can try grape water too. It always helped my daughter's.

Well just keep doing what your doing. You need to find a way to break up the gas bubbles for him to pass them easily. Poor little man.

I know   I feel awful. And whenever I talk to my pedi, he doesn't tell me anything! He doesn't give me advice..just says "all babies are like that".

Have you takin him in to see the doc there maybe something wrong with his tummy or intestines, not to scare you but it maybe a good idea to get him checked out.

We took him to the ER when he was vomiting. They did an ultrasound to look for pyloric stenosis. They didn't find anything :/ And now that he's stopped vomiting, they don't believe it's that. We took him to the pedi after the ER visit, and he said everything looked fine with him.

I've heard that gentlease works well, but I don't know if we should switch his formula AGAIN so soon.
I also heard nutramigen worked well too, though.

Oh, and he's gaining weight well. He's keeping all of the weight he's gained. He was 7lbs 4oz when he was born..6lbs 14 oz when we brought him home. At his first pedi appointment he weighed 7lbs 1oz. 2nd pedi appointment 7lbs 9oz. At the ER he was 8lbs 6oz(last saturday). At his last pedi appointment(which was last monday) he weighed 8lbs 11 oz. So that's why the pedi isn't super concerned :/

Someone actually has already given us a can of it, lol. So it's sitting in the pantry. We just weren't sure if we should try it or not.

Try using Biogaia drops, you have to ask for them at the pharmacy because they keep it in a fridge. They are probiotic drops to help balance the digestive system, we were having tummy problems with DD and started using them, it's like a whole new baby now!

My 5 year old had colic, it sounds like thats what your little one probably has. We had switched him to soy and it worked for a few days then he went back to screaming. Then I brought him to the doctor and she had me switch him to Similac Alimentum and that worked great along with the gas drops. She said if the Alimentum didn't work to use goats milk, but I would ask a doctor before you try that. I am in no way trying to be mean but I think you need to get another pediatricians opinion because not all babies act this way. Another thing that helped him was wrapping him up tight (not to tight) in a blanket and rocking him. He wouldn't sleep for more than an hour at a time until he was about three months old, but it's going to take time for his little tummy to get better. keep your chin up I hope things get better for you and your little one.
