I know what it's like doing the watching thing. My oldest has severe allergies and I am always watching for a new one to pop uP or waiting to see if my daughter gets any. It sucks so bad

That DOES sound hellish. BUT, that isnt paleo... it's a VERY restrictive, difficult diet. Sorry he has so many problems. maybe he will grow out of them or some of them.

We were told by the dOctor and a local paleo specialist that it's the closest to a tual paleo ( if he could eat nuts that would have helped) but that most people do not follow it that way.

A paleo diet includes a good amount of meat.
I'm not sure where they expected your son to get his nutrition from. As a person with a degree in nutrition who was a pedi nutritionist for several years, the diet you describe seems irresponsible.

This nut job wanted the strict version for allergy purposes doing the strict paleo meant like one maybe 2 servings of lean meat a day and said absolutely no dairy(I guess cavemen had no acess to dairy.... I dunno this guy was a complete wack job and had his ass was fired for liability reasons. He was an ENT convinced this diet would solved sons sleep apnea and asthma and allergies. He also told us to stop every medicine he was on... Cold turkey, without even opening our file. As I am sure you know you can't do that especially since most of his were preventive inhalers. ( immediately after that apt I called his pulmonologist who asked me of I was comfortable stopping cold turkey, since we knew it would cause problems. We agreed to follow his advice so that this guy could see the dangers... Part of why he was fires since we were in the hospital soon after)

I'm glad he was fired.
I dont understand how people with "book smarts" can survive with such little common sense.
I DO believe that for SOME kids and adults a very restrictive diet can be very helpful to figure out what the heck is wrong, but the first order of "business" is to not do any harm.
Hopefully, thing have gotten better for your family.

Oh I definently believe that it can be useful! We cut out most dies. No milk for my daughter and as much organic and homemade as we can withOut it being a chore.
This guy just seemed to take it too far in the sense that he Idid not even listen to us about our diet to begin with

But yes we're doing pretty good. Son did end up getting tonsil and adenoids just after his 4th birthday. His immune system is still crap but his gerd is a little better so he is willing to eat better.

The only thing I really liked about paleo was that my headaches left. Through doing that gave us a chance to redo our diet a little and explore other options of flours. We had never really gone to a healthy store before but discovered we love some of the food there

I did it recently for a couple weeks but then I slacked lol...I'm starting back up tomorrow as I just went grocery shopping..I was mostly paleo though and I allowed myself some dairy...the first couple days, I was tired just b/c I was used to eating so much carbs...but then I felt great..I was pooping alot (where I would normally just poop every 2-3 days) and dropped 7 lbs in like a week..

I'm glad things are better.
Those on the "typical american diet" most certainly wold benefit from moving toward paleo in terms of limiting the processed foods.
It's very hard to do full-time, but i think making healthier changes over time works for everyone. If there is a health reason to make a change, that is BIG motivation.

I have to go shopping today and load-up on different veggies so I'm not bored and tempted.
Thanks for the feedback!

This is true. I think I've read that like 30% of American's likely have some form of gluten intolerance and up to 40% of American's have some amount of dairy intolerance. I think that's one reason paleo can be so good for us. Also, as you said, cutting otu all the processed foods, the sugars, the fast food .

Unfortunately, our culture places greater weight on convenience than health. Hence, Lunchables and Hamberger Helper.

Yep. I was totally one of those. THANKFULLY I realized how horrible thinks like those are once we had our kids. They eat pretty well. We used VERY few processed foods and most of those only go to my husband (who only rarely gets them, thinks like rice-a-roni). The kids eat most whole foods and thing made from scratch.

i agree. It's actually nice making healthy food or food made from scratch. Just a few little changes here and there help

Well, today is my first "real" paloe day.
I decided to finish my last skinny cow cone last night rather than throw it away or listend to it beckon me to eat it later.

Reason for doing this is somewhat for weight loss as I'm not fat, just blubbery around the middle but shedding a few pounds would be much better for my overall health and feeling of well-being.
Also, i am VERY aware of my own adiction to sugar. Lately, i've been WAY overdoing it. Throwing the brakes on it will be best for me to get me out of this bad cycle I've been in.

I had chicken breast, guacamole, nuts and a ton of fruit today. I must say that i am NOT hungry but I'm aslo not satisfied. I'm hoping this changes by the end of the week. It's is certainly tolerable.

My exceptions so far - i had coffee this morning with a little milk and a packet of splenda. I'm not sure I'll give that up later or not.
Last night is sprinkled a little parmesan cheese on my broccoli with lemon. I NEED flavor and parm cheese packs a lot of flavor in a very small amount.

Feel free to share your progress.

I'll weigh myself tomorrow as i forgot to do that today.
