Pregnant and exercise?

posted 15th Jun '12
What are some excerises I could be doing?
I've gained a total of 9 lbs so far. I'm 20 weeks.
I don't want to gain that much. I walk ALOT because of my
job! I'm on my feet 8 hours a day.
I was wondering can I do stairs? Walk up and down the stairs at work?
Can I do any exercise that doesn't involve my stomach?

it's more about risky exercises -- like bungee jumping or anything that requires a great deal of balance (our balance goes out of whack when pregnant).

i ran between 6 - 8 miles daily throughout my entire pregnancy.

Almost anything cardio is fine. As long as you keep youself hydrated, and you feel okay. Also light hand weights for toning. Whatever you do, if you don't feel right, STOP.X

Depends, do you have a gym membership? I feel like the stairs might put a lot of strain on your knees and back. Walking is great, I like the elliptical. You can do stomach exercises that don't require you to lay on your back. Prenatal yoga is good to strengthen your core. If you're walking a lot already and watching what you eat (don't diet though!) there isn't much you can do about weight gain, it's healthy.

My doctor said 16-25 lbs weight gain is very good. I've gained 11lbs so far and I'm at week 26. I walk or do the elliptical every day and the only noticeable weight gain is in my belly. I also use 5 lb weights to work on my arms.

Talk to your doctor to make sure but yeah steps aren't a big deal just be careful, don't ware yourself out lol with anything you do you know that if you start to get tired/dizzy/light headed to stop. Just no crunches (obvious stomach exercises) lol I try to do a little bit of squats every now and then. I also, bought an elliptical because it's less stress on my back but thats me. Also check out the pregnancy pilate/yoga dvd's. Hope it helped good luck mama!

Srairs are fine, just not anything crazy that you could get hurt doing...or like sit ups, past 4 months that is a bad idea.

i'm about the same along as you, and i do whatever. this morning i ran the army birthday ball run (it was 3 miles). i haven't ran this entire pregnancy except today, but i've been keeping very active with pregnancy DVDs and chasing my 9 month old around. as long as you keep your heart rate below 150 youll be good.

Well really the prenatal yoga ones, here are some links to a couple. As they say, check with your doctor especially if you have some complications:

For me with this pregnancy I can't do as much as I could with my first. I think your body will let you know what you can and can't do.
