Smokers everywhere

ok I really do try not to judge people but how do you handle smokers around you or your children. I'm standing in a line outside when a woman standing about 5 ft from me lights up in line. There are kids everywhere she doesn't want away from the crowd at all. Like really if you smoke fine but move away from everybody. Thank God a woman a head of heard made it obvious she was disgusted by it by covering her mouth and nose with her own jacket and the smoker finally caught on and apoligized but this eems to happen everywhere, in crowds at fairs, outside right next to the doors of public buildings ie restuarants stores ect I want to say something but I figure if they don't have the common sense to be respectful and smoke away from people then they will probably not really give a damn and tell me to mind my own bussiness but it is my bussiness if I'm breathing it. My laugh is when they are standing right next to a no smoking sign. IDK there's my vent.

I'd move my kid... Simple as that.

if they had common sense, they wouldnt be smokers.

That's why I'm glad I live in MA... no smoking in public places, in crowds, nowhere inside businesses, within 500 feet of a public doorway, etc. Very rarely do I run into this.

I openly say something so they know how I feel. I get smokers have a right to smoke. But then if it is affecting me, I have a right to say something. I don't want to be around second hand smoke. What gets me, not only people standing at entrances to shops where there are no smoking signs but the mums who smoke stand right outside the school gates so I have no choice but to walk through it with my children. If they want to shorten their life expectency then whatever but I don't want it affecting mine and my children's health.

Oh hell no!

Either move, or politely ask them if they could put their cigarette out, or move further away from you. But, if you're rude when you ask them, don't expect to give a rat's ass about your wishes.

When I would smoke at the bus stop, I would always ask the people around me if they would mind that I smoked a cigarette. But once someone started getting pissy with me, I'd smoke there just to get on their nerves until they left. but, I also didn't smoke around kids b/c I knew if I had my daughter with me, I wouldn't be smoking around her.

Don't ask me, because when I'm not pregnant I'm a smoker. ^__^
I smoke in public places when I want to (illegal indoors or within 20 feet of a building here.) I guess because I am just an inconsiderate bitch.

Nothing. You're outside. I don't think that it's that harmful to stand near a smoker in open air.

I don't like the smell either, but the world doesn't revolve around me or my likes so if I don't like something, I remove myself ir deal with it.

I feel the same but unfortunately some people lack courtesy and manners and it takes saying something to get any kind of results.

People are nuts when they take it that far. You can smoke in your own car, at least you are confining your smoke.
