Maternal Age!

Are there any other mom's to be out there who are over 35 and dealing with all the scary stats and info the doctors give you! Just curious...how others are dealing with it.

I am 35 now...will be 36 before delivery.
I am taking the same stand I did with my other baby 3 years ago...I am passing on all of the "optional" tests. No triple check, no amnio test, no nothing.
My thoughts are this: I want to ENJOY my pregnancy, not be worried the whole time that something *may* be wrong. Many of those tests can come back with a false positive.
*IF* there would be a problem, God will give me and DH the strength and the wisdom to deal with it once the baby is here.
I know others don't always feel the same as I do...but this is what works for me and for my DH.
Good luck! PM me anytime!

I'm advanced maternal age according to the medical community in general, too, but my OB was 39 when she had her first child. She thinks the 35 age is crap. It is going to go to 40 in the next few years because more moms are having babies later. More over 35 mommies means lower stats. The stats are much higher due to quantifying being done with less woman in the age group having babies.
You didn't really ask for all that did you. ;) Oh, well I woke up feeling like Cliff Clavon from Cheers, LOL!

I'm 39 and expecting my 3rd. I haven't been pregnant for 14 years! I got the level 2 testing done, U/S and the triple blood screen and my resluts came back as those of a 34 year old! I won't have to get the amnio...yay! I think we should make an older mom's group cause there aren't many of us here!

I agree about making the group...it's so funny how some people thing 35 is some magic age that determines the health of your pregnancy. I agree with all of you, as far as just trying to enjoy the pregnancy and have faith that best is yet to come! It is so nice to see others out there!

I am 39 and expecting my first. We had trouble conceiving and we were told my eggs were too old or my SO didn't have what it takes in the pants to get me pregnant.... We showed them!
My first appointment is next week, we'll see what kind of crap we will be served!

I am 39 as well and this is my 2nd. I was 35 when I had my first. My first appt went well, with the exception of having to hear about all the increased risk because of my age, and of course the horrors that "could" happen during delivery. My favorite is that I actually have to meet with an Advanced Maternal Age Specialist, to discuss all the "what if's". It really has to just make you laugh..if you worried about everything, you could make yourself crazy.

I'm 39 and this is my 3rd. My youngest is 12. I also passed up on all the tests for us "older ladies". My midwife told me thatthe statisitics show that older womenare at a higher risk because there are fewer women who have babiesover 35.
The reason why I opted not to the tests is because Iwill love and care formy baby no matter what the outcome may be and also i didn't want to worry but enjoy what may be my last pregnancy.

I'm 38 and will be 39 when I deliver. This is my first and I'm not worried at all about my age. In fact, when I called to make my first appt they asked if I was high risk. I told them how old I was and they just laughed and said 'that's not high risk anymore, 39 is nothing... we want to know if you have any health conditions like hypertension etc..." Maybe it's because I live in Boston where the healthcare is incredible but no one is concerned about my age.
Having said all that, it's nice to know I'm not the oldest one here!!

I know what you mean! All other post, the majority are younger women and I feel out of place.
I'm almost done with this pregnancy and I didn't have any problems except for the fatigue and I can feel my bones practically "stretching" near the end...lol. Oh and I never had BHcontractions until this pregnancy and they are really bad now.
Good luckladies and congratulations!!
