Whats your opinion.

So hers my debate for today ladies.
My daughter is 10 yrs old. She loves to help cook and I have taught her alot about it since like well forever. Heres my PROBLEM.

Everyone thinks I am crazy for letting my 10 yr old cook by herself. She knows safety and is very causious and does not walk away from the stove ever. And I am always close by.
My friend came over and my daughter was at the stove making us all grilled cheese for lunch and soup.
Well my friend started freaking out like ape smurf stuff, and ran over there and was like whats wrong with you letting your child play at the stove.....
Im like she 10 come on, not like it was my 4 yr old. She can flip a girlled cheese and even eggs without a spatula she just flips the pan in the air to flip it. My dad taught her that when she was bout 8 yrs old lol
Any my friend keeps going on about it to everyone on how careless I am to let her...in her words PLAY WITH THE STOVE. lol
Anyways I was talking to her last night and she brought it up again lol and I told her that this saturday my daughter was making a turkey dinner, she has been dying to make one by herself forever.
And yes I will obviously will be there, but she wants to wash the turkey (she always helps me) by herself, and make and stuff the turkey and make everything with limited amount of help as possible. She really is good and very careful we have never had fires or any burns on her or any cutting fingers off when using knives or anything.

I am wrong for letting her do this? Whats your opinons on this ladies...I know what my friends opinon was lol. I dont think I am doing anything wrong in letting her, not like Im leaving her alone to do it.
And I think I am letting her make a path into what could be a great lifetime job in the future.

I was cooking alone in the kitchen at 10 so I don't see the big deal if you are standing there with her... nothing as big as a turkey dinner but I was cooking breakfast and dinners.

It's up to you to be the judge on that.

I was baking cookies by myself at that age.

Your friend needs to mind her own business. I'd be pissed if my friend told people I was letting my child play with the stove. I don't see a problem with letting a 10 year old cook. I can't ever remember not helping my mom in the kitchen. I wasn't allowed to use a knife or stove until I was about 8 and supervised. As long as you are watching her (even adults have kitchen accidents on occasion) I don't see a problem with it at all. It's good for her to learn how to cook and be safe about it.

Thanks ladies.

I knew my friend was over reacting on this lol. I love her and all but she wont even let her 6 yr old walk up the playground slide stairs by herself she is afraid she will fall.
She follows her around like she is 2 yrs old lol it drives me insane, she also still sleeps with her at night well I should say she rocks her to sleep on her lap lol that would be the day, I dont even rock my 4 month old. (she sleeps on her own when put to bed) lol

I have more than my fair share lol. Doesn't mean DD wont be helping me when she gets older. She tries to now but four is just too young to be at the stove.

I was making my own scrambled eggs at 5 or 6 so my kid better be able to fend himself in the kitchen somewhat by the time he's 10.
