Latching *long post*

posted 14th Jun '12
My DD is 2 weeks old and had no problem latching up until a couple days ago. I was admitted to the hospital because of a seizure caused by high blood pressure and also spinal headaches. Due to the MRI, caffeine pills and other tests I couldn't bf DD. I have been supplementing with formula while in the hospital. Now that I am out, I have tried to bf again but she refuses to latch on. Is it too late? I only wanted to bf but her not patching is becoming discouraging. I refuse to give up, but are there any tips that I could use to get her to latch again. I have tried squeezing my breast milk into her mouth but she still refuses to latch. Thanks in advanced for your help.

Try nipple shield. I found one at target near all of the breast feeding stuff. Just keep trying <3

Just keep working at it. It took a little while for my milk came in and since my son was 5 weeks early breast feeding was a lot of work for him so we had to give some formula. He got so use to the bottle but we are working on getting back on the breast. He still doesnt like bf at night but i try to only breast during the day and slowly take away bottles.

okay I've tried over the lady couple of days but she gets too frustrated, which makes me sad and frustrated. I think it may be too late because now when I pump I only get less than an ounce and I'm getting less each time I try to hand express some out. Could it be that I'm drying/dried up?

I also started not getting as much when i pumped i went out and got some fenugreek its a pill that helps and its only been a few days but i am slowly getting more milk when i pump. What helped getting my son to nurse i would bottle feed him some pumped milk and then put him to boob. When they have a little something in their tummy they tend to not get so frustrated so fast. I know its frustrating i have been in tears quite a few times cuz i want this to work so bad but it not going as plan. You just have to keep trying. I came so close to giving up and i am so happy i didnt. We are still a work in progress but at least we are still working on it. Good luck mama.
