your opinion

posted 7th May
Ok, I don't want any drama here. I just want to know everyones opinion on this subject. Do you think it's ok to smoke Marajuana while you are pregnant/ breastfeeding? I personally think it's wrong. Are there any mothers out there that have done it through pregnancy and had a healthy baby? On the other hand are there any mothers who have done it and had a baby with a defect? Just trying to get both sides opinions and arguments.

i would say no while youre pregnant or breastfeeding-your baby doesnt have a say in what you put in your body.....but once the baby is out or youre done breastfeeding its your body again.....just be responsible....

I think it's perfectly okay actually. I was until I started my appointments with medicaid. They drug test here now which really sucks. Now don't worry yourselves, that was the only thing I was on and I miss it terribly. I get headaches quite a bit. I can't take anything for it because I'm allergic to acetametaphen and you can't take ibuprophen while pregnant. The nurse who was talking to us actually told us that it does nothing to the baby so I don't understand people's hangup's on it. The only thing it really does is deprive them of oxygen but so do so many others things that we do.

I don't smoke... didn't when I was pregnant nor would I and surely don't do it now that I'm breastfeeding.

However, I'm wondering is there proof that it affects your breastmilk?? I know that beer does and you're supposed to wait 2 hrs after each one.

But does marijuana have any affect on your breastmilk??

I smoked pot all the time before I got pregnant, but I quit. I've read loads about fetal development and smoking marijuana during pregnancy. It's probably the safest thing to do during pregnancy, if you're going to do something. But my opinion as a mother-to-be is that it's just irresponsible, and that in itself would make me feel like shit for smoking it right now...or even after my baby is born. Plus, it's a matter of preference. It's not as if the baby is going to remember it, but even if I like it, the baby *more than likely* wouldn't.

From what I undersand,it has not been proven to cause any fetal damage, espescially when not consumed by smoking.I know several women who have used it throughout pregnancy and have had healthy babies who grew in to healthy children-myself being one of those children.I've never been into pot much myself-not since college anyway, but I think that there are worse or just as bad things a mother can do while being pregnant,li ke being obese and sedentary.Either way,I'd never judge someone on their decisions during pregnancy because I've gor my own uterus to think about.

I think it makes the baby test positive for marajuana if you smoke it and breastfeed.

Which goes into the depriving the baby of oxygen. Just living where I live causes that. I'm not going to move just because of that.

From the view point of a health care physician, I can agree. But marijuana does alter your perception of reality, it messes you up, even if you aren't stumbling around like you would if you were drunk. I think it's irresponsible though. I don't even spend time with my friends anymore unless they're sober, and that includes weed.

I know in what to expect when your expecting it said that your baby can be mentally slow later in life, can cause defects, like connected fingers and toes, it can also make your baby die. Like they're born dead. I always wondered if they're kind of making that up a little bit to scare you into not doing it. I would never take the risk but I always wondered.

Well I think the death thing is a little over exaggerated, but I can see where having webbed fingers or toes would come in. Marijuana DOES slow you down, and generally what you do effects your baby, too...I could see that it would slow down a certain point of growth during pregnancy that would result in webbed appendages.

Well,my mother smoked marijuana very frequently while pregnant with me(give her a break,it was the 1970's!)and I have a 165 IQ and am far from slow, and do not have webbed digits.I do think that What To Expect is a horrible book all the way around.
