Your body burns calories just by being alive. A bed ridden person burn s around 2000 calories a day.

The less you weigh, the less calories you burn - so about 400 calories for that for your current weight is accurate.

You need a baseline amount of cals a day to just live, even if you were in a coma your body would use up say 1200 cals, so if you consume 1500 cals a day you need to burn 300 cals to meet the basic requirements for your body to live and burn off the excess.

No way. If that was the case, everybody would be burning more than they consume?

Unless you sit around all day and even then your burning calories. Just exercising ups that amount considerably.

You shouldn't burn more than you consume as far as exercise goes. You would literally be killing yourself by consuming only say, 400 calories but doing enough exercise to burn 500. Your body needs calories to survive and function.

Quoting ma ♥:" To lose weight? HOW the heck is that even possible?? This has never made sense to me... For example, ... [snip!] ... 1200 calories a day. I weigh 111lbs, so 45mins of hard cardio (zumba to be exact) would make me burn only 337 calories. uhh?"

Your body burns calories at rest to keep the heart/digestion, all that running.

I know that on a normal day with a little exercise but nothing big I burned 2300-2500 a day. So I needed to eat 1300-1500 a day to have a 1k deficit a day, which would equal out to about 2lbs a week.

Quoting ma ♥:" Wait, what?"

Someone who weighs 110 pounds who does Zumba hardcore for 45 minutes will burn between 300-400 calories. Someone who does Zumba who is 300 pounds will burn a LOT more.

I think I read your OP wrong.

Sure, if everyone was just eating 1200 cals a day, but most people eat anywhere from 2-4000 calories a day.
A pound equals about 3500 calories. So you need to have a calorie deficit of 1000 a day to lose 2lbs a week.

Oh I know, that sucks!
I found this zumba calculator online & I played around with the weight & somebody who weighs over 200lbs could burn 600-700 calories in 45 mins

Makes sense. I know that if I cut calories I'll lose weight MUCH faster then someone who only has, say, 10 lbs to lose.
