what do I do next?

posted 6th May
I went off BC in early April-had a normal period in April...calculated my ovulation in late mid/late April and we definitely tried to conceive. So here we are in early/mid May. My period was expected late Saturday/early Sunday--nothing yet (which is a good thing). I took one of those 5 days earliertests on Friday--it was not valid (the control window didnt showa line). I took another this morning and the test was negative. How accurate are they? Has anyone gotten a negtive home pregnancy test but still ended up being pregnant? My ovulation calendar (from WebMD) says tomorrow is the day that if I still don't get it by tomorrow, I could be pregnant. What do I do next? Do I take another home test (different brand, maybe?? suggestions?)? Do I call my doctor? I know it's a little early but I'm so antsy---every day my period does not come I get my hopes up higher and I am trying not to do that yet! Thanks for your help.

I would just take another test in a week or so. If you do it to early your HCG levels may not be high enough to be read on a HPT. You dont have to do it first thing in the morning but it might be more helpful if you do since your HCG levels rise over night.

Different peoples hormone levels vary, it may take you longer to get a positive result. Wait a little while and test again (I know, the agony!). Just remember youll get a better result if you take the test first thing in the morning, with your first urination after sleeping, because the hormones are most concentrated then. If you get any sort of faint positive, then youre more than likely pregnant, even if the line isnt dark.

I tested on the day of my expected period and it was postive!!!

I ended up taking 10 tests. 7 said negative. Had my period a month later and it turns out I was almost 2 months pregnant. So go to your doctor to know for 100%.

My periods are just weird when I'm pregnant. They are sparatic (sp) for the first 2 months of pregnancy and then they stop. I know I'm pregnant when they go all weird but the tests don't show up positive until they stop and even then there is only one kind of test that will show up positive.

With my first pregnancy, I tested the day of my missed period and sure enough it showed up.
With this pregnancy, I tested the day after and got such a faint line that I took 3 tests. One didn't show anything at all. Finally I bought a digital. There is no gray area with them. You either are or you aren't. It showed up that I was, but even when I went to my doctors 3 days later the line showed up very faint that she actually asked me if I took a test at home and what the results were.

blah...here it is--12 days later and I finally started my period. o well. back to the drawing board. I wasn't really expecting it to happen immediately going off BC but you get your hopes up a little higher each day. Anyway, now that my cycle is all wacko...how can I try figure out my ovulation again? I don't really want to buy one of those kits yet. Is there a certain number of days after my period is over that I can go by? Any input is appreciated!
