Bed wetting

posted 6th May
My daughter is 6 years old and she has been fully potty trained since she was 2. But for the past 6 or 7 months or so we've been having an on-going battle with her bed wetting. The problem isn't that she wets the bed (occassionally) but the fact that she lies about it when myself or her father asks. Like today, i just found out about an hour ago that she wet the bed this morning. And she told me that she forgot to tell us which is a lie because we walk her school every morning. I've tried reassuring her that she won't be in trouble, and all that i ask of her is to just tell us when she has an accident but for some reason she just won't. Any advice?

As far as the lying. I really dont know what to do there. I am having a issue with my 5 yr old lying now. Only thing is she isnt any good at it so I know when its a lie. Ask every morning if you have to. Help change the sheets if they are wet. Make it a game or something and she will more then likely want to tell you. They still fear getting in trouble or get embarrassed about it which is a reason for not telling or lying.

I used to wet the bed, did til I was 13, sad I know. But its just.. really embaressing I used to cry about it and my parents NEVER got mad. Hell, they would reassure me and say "no no its okay.." you could do what my dad did? My dad started to get me up at least once a night, around midnight to train me to wake up. Thats how he broke me of wetting the bed.

You know what, that is a really great idea. I can just wake her up to use the bathroom when i get up to warm my sons bottle at around 1 or 2 in the morning and i guess after a month or so her body will be trained to wake up to use the bathroom. Thanxxxx soooo much!!!

My daughter is now 5. She was wetting the bed almost every night up until about 6 months ago. We just made sure she didnt drink anything after 8pm. Then we would make her go to the bathroom before bed and we would wake her up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom again. That really helped. And she used to hide it from us too. She'd wet the bed then try to change her own sheets and clothes. When we'd confront her about it, she would cry and be embarrased. So I think when your daughter doesnt tell you, it's not that she's lying but maybe because she's embarrassed.

I have/had the same problem with my 5 year old daughter. I try not to get mad because the doctor said that it is hereditary. She is the heaviest sleeper and won't wake up for anything. My husband is the same way. The laundry is frusturating. I know! The nights that she does get up, I just encourage her. We have a sticker chart also for the nights that she wakes up. I just try to be supportive. It's embarrassing enough for her, especially getting into that sleepover stage.

My son is 6 1/2 years old and he still wets the bed every once in a while. I used to wake him up 2 times a night. Be prepared to do this for the next umpteen months!! I did that for about 5-6 months then I cut down to once a night. I still wake him up some nights. I talked to him about it and he said that in his dream he is peeing on the toilet. I cut his beverage consumption and wake him up at night. Get one of those waterproof mattress covers. I would not put my son on meds for bed wetting though!! I used to have him wear diapers or pull-ups to bed. Once he hit 4 1/2 he was too big for that though. I don't believe in meds for kids.......be the "parent" and wake him/her up at night!!

maybe she can sense the fact of disappointment or that you are upset to find that she wets the bed occasionally. Does she ever possibly hear you and your husband talking about her bedwetting?

There is this nasal spray ( i know it sounds weird, but true) that you use before you go to bed and it keeps you from wetting it. i know a few different people that have used it and it works right away!

bed wetting isnt an issue honestly as embarassing as it is i used to bed wet from age 6-13.....honestly have u ever heard of goodnights. my son uses then and they are wonderful. hard to soak thru and helps her feel confident and its cheeper then laundry....try just not asking if she wet just casually go check her room. she might be embarassed. this is a subject i know alot about also from what i understand bed wetting is genetic also.....my father did it....i did it ....and now my son does it
