re: Private Birth? Was this rude?

Yeah, my husband wanted to invite his family over right away and I told him I needed some time alone. He was upset with me at first and I think they were dissapointed too. But in the end he admitted it would have been pretty difficult to have them there. I agree with your decision.

This happened to me too. i was the 7th person to hold my son.... i was mad and upset. i then wouldnt let anyone touch him! i was so mad!

Woah what? Did they just refuse him to you or what? I was upset cuz I was rushed to finish holding him.

No i had a c section i was in recovery for almost 2 hours they had to put me under due to the epidural not numbing the right side of my body and i jumped from the pain! i woke up and my brother his girlfriend (whom i cant stand!) my mom my dad my husband a girl from school (whom again i didnt invite) and i think my aunt were there all holding him when i was wheeled into the room i was pissed...

awe I'm sorry. My SO was first I was second. He held him while they switched me beds and then I was given him and wheeled back to a room full of people. I didn't know what to do. but its not what I wanted!!

IT will not happen again. with this baby. i have only my mom and husband going to be in the Hospital with me. and i will demand the nurses only let my husband hold him and i will get to hold him when i get back to the room. hopefully i dont have to spend so much time in the Recovery room! so i can hold my baby. and im going to be like a wild dog protecting its pups. im not letting no one take him from me.

I don't think that its rude to want privacy. It is however, a bit presumptuous to assume that hoards of people are going to be banging down the door to visit. I understand your reservations but feel that you could have made your point without mentioning the visitor block and repeating yourself several times.

I'm sorry you even have to bother with posting that. You shouldn't have to explain to people why they're not allowed in the delivery room. They should just understand and accept that they're not one of the few that will be in there and they should accept it without having any issues.

Anyway, while you were pretty polite I think you kind of dragged on and on about it which could come off in a sort of bad way. You could've summed the whole thing up with, "Hi. My SO and I wanted everyone to know that while we appreciate your kind thoughts and gestures we would like the birth of our child to be private. It is obviously a very important moment for us and it's one we want to share alone. You are more than welcome to visit after everything has settled down but please call me first. Thank you."
