If you had a toddler who wouldn't stay in bed...

Theres a night light.
The house is quiet.
Lying with the child doesn't work.
Rewards don't work.
Consistently putting them back in bed doesn't work.
You being in bed doesn't work.
Having a long day of playtime doesn't work.

Nap time is normal, meals are normal...everything is on a schedule.

Not for me, my kid is a great sleeper. TIA.

Sitting in the room?

How old is the child? It seems odd to me that putting the kid back in bed wouldn't work. I mean, does that literally last until the sun comes up?

2 hours.

And tried that one too...

My son does the same thing! Every night is a battle. I've learned that heavy play about 2 hours before bed, and then a longish bath helps him actually stay in bed. Plus half the time he doesnt nap at all (he is 2 as of last feb) Plus, reading a bedtime story helps too.

Have they tried a routine? A consistant bed time routine helped my LO a good deal.

Something like bath/pjs, then drink/snack, then story, then snuggle, then sleep.

Do they have a bedtime routine every night?

Quoting Devil's Advocate:" Rocking them?"

Nope...literally tried everything.

She will continually get up. Doesn't matter what is done.

She only does this with her mother.

I went over last week when my son's nana had him, and it took 2 hours. My friend is losing it. She shouldn't have to do this every night.

How old? Maybe time to cut out naps?

Said parent would have to just keep doing it until it worked. Eventually the child will wear himself out and stay in bed when put back in bed.

When Cash is being weird about bedtime, I start getting him options about how bedtime is going down... pick out jammies, pick which stuffed animals get to sleep with him, turn on his nightlight, sound machine etc.
Then I tell him that his bed is a special Avengers rocketship and it takes him to headquarters but it only works once he's asleep.

Yes, her mother says they have a schedule and routine they always go by.

She is 3 in November. I've posted about her not sleeping before.

She is hard to get down for naps too.

I think maybe its a deeper problem with the parenting. Like maybe she is used to just getting her way all the time, and she feels that this is no different.

Bathtime and reading before bed? That should help wear the kid out. Going to bed too early? Too many naps? Maybe the child needs to wake up earlier?
