feel like a failure :(

posted 12th Jun '12
for starters, i am now 18 days postpartum and have been breastfeeding from day one. i have had issues with sleep ever since i became pregnant with DD. i was told it's hormones and things should level out once the baby is born. things have not gotten any better. my sleep is just horrible and without the aid of benedryl or tylenol pm i feel like id never sleep at all   anyways the point to all this is i think i might have to stop breastfeeding all because of this stupid insomnia. although doctors have told me that benedryl and tyelenol pm are safe, i have done some reading and have gotten mixed answers. My daughter has become more fussy and irritable and i am blaming the medicine. I just dont want to stop breast feeding. i never got far with my son and i told myself i wanted to breast feed my daughter as long as possible   if i stop over something like this ill feel horrible and like such a failure. i am going to see my regular doctor this thursday and maybe she can point me in the right direction. I love the bonding and nuturing feeling breast feeding brings for both mother and baby. Have any of you ladies had problems similar to mine? how did you deal with it all? thanks

I understand where you are coming from.
I only BF'ed my LO for a month. I liked it and all, but after having to pump every 2-3 hours of BF, even if LO was asleep, got to me. I felt like I failed too. But, do what's best for you. Sleep works wonders. It takes time for your hormones to get back on the right track. But if you plan to keep BF'ing, just stay consistent. And try to sleep every chance you get.

it may take a few more weeks for your hormones to level out.....just wait and see what your doc says at your appointment. Good luck momma and congrats on the new baby

Do you breastfeed often at night? the hormones in the night milk supposedly carry the things needed to help you and baby sleep. Read it in a la leche leader board.

Hope you can get everything figured out!
