I get the labs done at a hospital, and the hospital sends the results to my doc. I'm still (regretfully) waiting for my first bill, but I do plan on getting the financial aid on those bills if I can.

Luckily, my medical bills are current so far all thanks to Tricare picking up that 4k bill they weren't going to pay for.

Most hospitals have good financial assistance too, nobody who needs testing should have to hold off due to finances and/or no insurance. I hope it works out for you!

Do they charge you a hospital fee too? When I have the ultrasounds and mri/ct's done I was getting 2 bills. 1 from the radiology place and one from the hospital. Greedy smurfs! lol But then I went to the "free standing" place and they only charge the radiology crap for the test. Saves me almost $400 every other month! Same with the bloodwork. If I go to the hospital they always charge more... if I go to the lab (happens to be Quest) I only pay for the bloodwork.

If the hospital is charging you for that as well, call your dr and ask if they'll write you an order to have the blood drawn, then you just take that to the lab and they'll do it - but you have to have the order, you can't just walk in and tell them what you want... it isn't Burger King.

Hmmm, I'm really not sure. I haven't seen a bill from them yet. I have a standing order from my doctor that was faxed to the hospital, and then I have to register at the hospital with that order for lab work. The standing order I get is good for a month (another is sent when it is expired), and I just bring it with me every time I get my blood drawn.

Do you actually have to check IN/be admitted, like they give you a bracelet? That's what they were doing to me with the u/s and ct. Unfortunately it took me 18 months to figure that out. lol

Call the dr's office tomorrow morning and ask them if there's an independent lab that draws blood in the area. They're usually pretty helpful... if you're a pain in the ass about it. And then ask if they can write the order and give it/mail it to you. My dr will mail orders for blood/ct/mri/ultrasound... but yours may not. You could ask if you could pick it up if they won't. Since it's something 'standard' for you I dont' see why they'd have a problem with that.

Once I have registered orders, I walk right to the lab as a walk-in and they call me back when it's my turn, hand me back my lab order, and I come back whenever my doc tells me to get it done. I don't check in or am admitted anywhere after my orders are registered upon receiving them.

I'll def call and ask since it can save money.
