I loved it for Taylor, Joshua doesn't watch it. He likes Oswald.

Taylor is a straight A student, so I know it didn't hurt her any to watch it.

Well, I'll start by saying I have no problems with Colin watching a moderate amount of television.

But, there have been studies done that show that made for baby DVDs can actally slow the learning of words instead of aiding it.

Made-for-baby videos may harm language development: study
Last Updated: Tuesday, August 7, 2007 | 4:19 PM ET

Many parents think they're helping their baby's language by letting them watch aBaby Einstein DVD, butthe opposite might be the case, according to a study out Tuesday.

The study found that with every hour per day spent viewing baby DVDs and videos, infants between the agesof eightand 16 monthslearned about10 per centfewernew vocabulary words compared to babies who never watched the targeted programming.

As well, the study showed that babies in the same age rangewho watched other types of programming such as children's educational shows, children's non-educational shows, kids movies or adult television learned more words, versus babies watching infant-geared shows.

For toddlers aged 17 to 24 months, the article found that baby DVDs and videos had neither a positive nor anegative effect.

The paper was published online Wednesday in the Journal of Pediatrics. It wasdone by researchers at the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Hospital Research Institute whoquizzed 1,008 Minnesota and Washington parents abouttheir babies' viewing habits. Theyalso completed a standard evaluationfor measuring infant language development.

"Despite marketing claims, parents who want to give their infants a boost in learning language probably should limit the amount of time they expose their children to DVDs and videos such as Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby," said a statement about the study.

Whether or not you put any stock in said study is up to you. Like I said, I don't have a problem with Colin watching a moderate amount of television, but I don't advocate parking a kid in front of the television for hours a day (I don't think many people do, but you never know).

they'll be quicker to learn if you play with them rather than having a movie teach them...TV in moderation is fine...but I think Baby Einsteins make it more likely for someone just to plop their kid in front of it for a long time thinking its doing some good. JMO

ohh god no im not sayin let you kid sit in fornt of the tv till there eyes look like tvs lol.I dont see anything wrong with little bits here and there.I dont look at the tv as my babysiter.I do agree to the fact that there are some parents that use tv in the wrong way. "like a babysiter"

I think that would apply if you just leave them in front of the tv. With the baby einstein dvds I like to watch them with xavier and point and explain it to him which I would believe to be almost like a board book (which is what they call them- digital board books on dvd or something)

I like them - but we rarely watch them. I use the sign language one to reinforce her signing - but she is learning ASL from me not the movie. I agree that its bad to rely on the videos more than intracting with your kids - but as long as its limited viewing I dont see the harm. I dont use it though as part of a bedtime routine - I think that would cause problems in the future.

I don't use them. I work occassionally in a nursery that does use them, and I like them better than Dora. But I voted "no need" because I don't usually have the TV on at home.
