re: Baby Einstein

Honestly I do not believe in letting children, especially very young babies) watch television, even baby eistein. I have good reason...I was one of those parents that plopped my son down in front of the television, because I thought since it was an educational program then it would be ok for him to watch it. He had all the elmos, sesame street, einsteins..if it was educational we got it for him. He loved them..but now that he's in school..its not nearly as fast paced for him as the television. I know not all kids are like that, because I lived on the tv, and on not so educational programs as a child. I watched full house for as long as I can remember....but when I was a child..cartoons were limited to before school/after school..and saturdays. Nowadays we have 24 hour cartoon channels, even channels like noggin and a 24 hour infant channel. I watched tv and did fine in school, but of course my tv was limited ...my sons wasnt. That was poor parenting on my part, and I believe it has caused him to have a very mild case of ADHD, if you want to call it that. Its like he's hyper unless the TV is on. So we have cut him down to either 1 movie or 30 minutes a day.

I love it!
Obviously it's not a substitute for human interaction, and I think the "repeat play" option is ridiculous, but Riker typically watches one video a day and I have no problem w/ that =)

When Hannah was younger I'd sit her in her bouncer for maybe 30 mintues a day or every other day and let her watch some Baby Einstein. She loved it and it allowed me a little time to get cleaning done or get ready for work or whatever.
Now that she's older she watches a program called Baby First TV sometimes during the day and she LOVES it. She really enjoys this show called "Squeak" haha. Most of the time she's off playing and exploring or doing things with me but I think TV in moderation is fine.

Meh, we prefer Nick toons or Nick Jr around here. I love me some Spongebob or Fairly Odd Parents.
My daughter is 2.5 months. At this point, the tv is more of a cheap light show for her. We don't watch much tv around here anyways. Our addiction is PC gaming. I personally wouldn't buy my kids Baby Einstein.
I feel it's on the line of pull-ups. It fools parents into thinking there is progress through this nonsense. I'm not saying it can't have and effect, I just think it's a waste of money. Cartoons are for entertainment, not teaching a child, IMO.

Well, I have the TV on most of the day. I play with Faryn, she plays by herself and sometimes she looks up at it because something loud or the lights and sometimes I put her in her bouncer to play and she watches it then.
I personally enjoy TV andas long as I am not just plopping her in front of it 24/7, I don't see the harm. I am not going to limit myself on the certain things I enjoy, even if it's background noise, just because she may look up and watch it for a few minutes every once in a while.
