but where bitch and "nigger/nigga" came from are two different places.
bitch is a female dog
nigger/nigga was used to disgrace the african/ mulatto slave. i cant see using it lightly ever.
i may have not been around when they spoke that name to be spiteful but i know that the meaning of it which is * dirty dark skinned person. It was originally negro (black) from the spanish language and then when it was adopted to slavery it was turned into a a degrading slang term for blacks.
Like i stated above, not one person should throw that particular word around. No matter the context or the friendship between the people who are saying it. its not a word that came from nowhere, but aword that came from a dark history.

I tried to put make it clear that I understand the two words are from completely different backrounds, and bitch is nowhere near as hurtful as the N word. I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear enough. I was just trying to say that throught the context of the conversation usually dictates whether or not the word is meant to be hurtful. I understand also that no matter what the context is, the word is just hurtful to some people, and to others it's not.

Thanks, I'm sorry if I chose a very poor analogy. The word "nigger" is hurtful to some people, which is completely understandable. I personally don 't ever say it, it makes me uncomfortable to say it b/c I know it's so hurtful to some.

you say that bitch is no where as hurtful... but according to whom?.. I would be more upset being called a "bitch" then being called a "nigga"...

"We can, however, see how bitch came to be applied to women. It was being used thus as early as 1400 and referred to a lewd or sensual woman. It was not uncommon to use it in literature of the time in that sense. It was simply a metaphor, comparing lewd women to female dogs, which, if left to their own devices, will bear pups rather frequently, suggesting sexual promiscuity."

so, being female, I can view being called a bitch as derrogatory....its used to disgrace women...

nigga/nigger and bitch were both orginated to be used as a disgraceful and degrading term

I like your explanation better. The more i think about the word bitch and to whom its been directed to for centuries, it is as bad as the word nigger

I actually did not know the history of the word like you explained it. To me, I don't take it as offensively as you do, and that's probably because I was naive to the history. I'm starting to think the majority of the population is naive as well, because "bitch" tends not to stir up the samelevel of hurtas "nigger" with most people. Don't take me wrong, both are hurtful words, and after what you said I can see they are equal in disgrace, however I don't think many people realize the history of bitch, which can make it seem less hurtful. I think it's safe to say everyone knows "nigger" which may be why it seems more hurtful. But honestly, thank you for the history lesson   I still don't take too much offense to the word bitch, but that's just me.
