re: Nigga?

posted 6th May
Ive been called cracker and just replied yep and proud of it, now if someone called me white trash I would take that to offense but that would still be their opinion. But I dont think the "N" word should be okay for some to say it and others not to. But I dont care for the word either way.

I agree with the others.. if a black person can say it so should everyother race. As long as your not saying it in a disrespectful way I dont see any problems with it. But, I personally am not one to go around calling ANYONE "nigger" or "nigga".

I think anyone should be able to say it...but I think it's tacky and insensitive.

I dont have a problem with the word being said but i do have a problem when the word is used in every sentence that ever comes out of persons mouth is extremely ignorant. I also find people that use the word freely but get easily offended when someone of another race use the word extremely ignorant.

To me it is just a word, it's really not that big of a deal, I do think it is over used.

i dont ever use that word but i hear it often these days. i dont personally like it just because I hate the negative effects it has on people who are offended by it. I do not use that word simply out of RESPECT

I'm not offended by any words, on their own. It all depends upon the context.

I believe in free speech 100%. While I would think someone who used it, especially as a pejorative, was an idiot, I'd support their right to say it.

It would be nice if words that are pretty much only used as hatred would disappear from our vocabularies, but I don't see there being any way of forcing it, so it's somewhat irrelevant whether or not I think it "should" be used. There are a lot of things I think people "shouldn't" say, because of the impact on whomever they're saying it to, but as I have no way to stop them, I generally don't get that upset when people want to reveal themselves as idiots or bigots, because frankly, it'll ruin their credibility without me needing to lift a finger.

But you are only speaking for you, because personally I HATEthat word, so you really don't know if african americas as a whole think that way.

It doesnt have any "meaning" to me personally but I see it the same way as being called a cracker or white trash. IMO it is just a word the same as those are. It shouldnt be used but I wont let words like that get to me too much because it doesnt matter what they call me. Their words do not define who I am and I know that I am not those things.

I don't personally care if people use it. Its just a word.

I do think however, that if black people want other races to stop saying it towards them, then they need to stop using it themselves.

I think the context in which the word is used dictates whether it's appropriate or not. For instance if a couple of friends are joking around with each other and say it, no biggy, but if it's used as a racial slur, then yes, it's innapropriate. My fiance and his buddy's (black and white) joke with each other playing COD4 online and call each other that like it's nothing! I think it's similar to "bitch" on a smaller scale. If i flat out call someone a bitch, whom I don 't know, and am trying to be rude to, then it's innapropriate, but if I call a close friend a bitch joking around, it's ok! I know the backround on the words are COMPLETELY different, and I'm not trying to downplay the hurt that the N word causes, used in bad context,i'm just trying to make my take on the things easier to understand.
