I went in on Thursday May 1st to get induced. Once I got admitted, I got checked and wasn't dilated at all. They put cervadil in at around 9:00 p.m. At around 11 p.m. they started an IV to get me hydrated and it caused me to have some pretty severe nausea. I got some reglan in my IV and that made it all better. I was also given some Ambien so that I could sleep, but even with that it was pretty impossible to get some rest. My contractions started getting pretty regular and thy were consistant and 5 minutes apart by 8:00 a.m. I got checked around 9:00 a.m. and I was at about 2-3 cm dilated. At around 10:00 they started the pitocin, and it kicked up my contractions for sure. I got checked around 12:30 and I was still only dilated 3-4. All of a sudden 30 minutes later, I was lying on my left side and felt a pop, and sudden gush of water. We all know what that means. I very calmly told Erik that my water broke and we hit the nurse call button. Took them forever to get to me. Now at this point my pitocin was all the way up. My contractions were super intence, and hurt like hell. The nurse came in and lowered the pitocin dose, I was in some serious pain and requested something for the pain. The nurse said she'd give me something but that we had to get me moved to the delivery. I was in some serious pain, but I still had to walk my ass through the pain to the delivery room. I managed to stay calm as possible, thank God I had Erik there to help me breathe through contractions. Once we got in the room, the nurse gave me a shot of nubane in the arm and once in my IV, they did nothing. I still felt intense amounts of pain. The Dr, still hadn't checked me for dilation or anything. At this point I begged for an epidural, and the anesthesiologist finally came in and started working on it. It was so hard to breathe through contractions on my own since they made Erik leave the room, and I was in some incredibly intense labor. The epidural didn't do much for me at all. About 10 minutes later, I felt an incredible urge to push. I told the nurse and she went to get the Dr. She finally got a Dr to come in and check me, I was already at 10 c.m. and ready to push. So the Dr then tells me told off while she goes and gets my Dr. At this point everyone gets in the room and I start pushing. I pushed for an hour. My Dr informed me that she wanted me to hold off on pushing because Natalie's heart rate was dropping, and she wasn't handling the contractions and pushing well. They wanted to wait for the OR to open up before I pushed some more. That was the hardest part of my entire labor. I had to hold off on pushing for about an hour and half. It was plain horrible. Meanwhile I have a million nurses and Doctors chit chatting like it's nothing, and I'm just trying to hold on so I don't hurt my Baby girl. Finally the OR opened up and they told me that I was going to have a C section. I got pretty upset but let them know that I just wanted my baby to be ok, and please just do whatever was needed. My Dr decided to give me one more shot at pushing. At this point. I pushed with all my might, and finally after about 5 pushes. Natalie Inez Schiltz was born on May 2nd at 5:11 p.m. weighing 6 pounds 9 oz and 20 inches long.
Nothing can describe the incredible emotion and love I feel for my little girl. My labor was not pleasant at all, thanks to the incompetence of the nurses and Doctors I encountered. However, I would do it a million times over for her. She's absolutely perfect and Daddy and I are over the moon. I have a stubborn little fighter on my hands, she wasn't able to feed right away, she wouldn't take breast or bottle. They had to teach her how to suck, and she was finger fed for a while. It was heartbreaking because she wasn't going to be able to come home unless I could properly feed her. Finally the evening before we were to come home, she started feeding off a bottle. Well we're home now and happy to say that breastfeeding is going well. I can't believe it, I was so scared I wasn't going to be able to do it. All she needed was a little time.
My recovery has been incredibly easy, I'm feeling great. I only got three stitches and everything is healing great. I'm constantly being reminded to take it easy. It's hard.
Sorry for the book, but I know several of you have been asking for this.
