Miscarriage But Still Having Pregnancy Symptoms

posted 12th Jun '12
Hi everyone. Here is my story. I'm 19 years old and was having the hardest time figuring out if I was pregnant. I had went 3 weeks past when my period was due and was still getting negative tests. So I waited it out and finally I started bleeding. But I had a really bad feeling it wasn't my period because I only bleed for 2 day's and then just very lightly spotted for 2 more. I went to the ER were the Doc said I had had a miscarriage earlier that week.

Its been about a week and half since and my breasts are continuing to grow and the areola's are getting bigger. I can also see a lot of blood vessels on them now. I'm still always tired and have horrible headaches. I'm just wondering what could be wrong with me :/

Go back to the doctor, it could be retained tissue - you didn't really bleed much for a miscarriage. Or you could still be pregnant.

Go to the doctor. Get a blood draw to check hcg levels.

I dont know if I could be pregnant because they did a vaginal ultra sound and didnt see anything. But idk how much you can see at 6 weeks. They could have missed it but someone was talking to me about the hook effect and how I may have been prego with twins and just lost one. But like I said I'm not a doctor so idk for sure. So I guess I'll have to go back and see another one.

I agree go back to the Dr, everything mombom said, did you have blood tests till your levels went down to 0? I agree with her .... I had a early mc and the bleeding was quiet heavy much more than a normal period and it went on for about 6 weeks on and off and that was "normal" I was told. I was told it might be a while before all the pregnancy hormones left my body and a home test would still show up + but my symptoms decreased as time went on not increased. Something is not right here!

Yes I did have a blood test done, 3 in fact. All negative. Thats why I was wondering about the hook effect and seeing if anyone has ever experienced it or heard of it before.

You also could have just been very early. Sometimes they will think that it's a miscarriage if they don't see much on the U/S. You could have had a funky extra long cycle. That means you got prego later than expected in your cycle and you're earlier than they expect you to be.

The ER isn't the best place to get info. They're notorious for saying all sorts of stupid stuff. I'd make an appointment with your OB. A regular ob would do an U/S and if they didn't see much, they'd schedule a follow up U/S in 2 weeks plus do some blood work (hcg, progesterone). If you are having a miscarriage, then they go from there.

Def go back to the dr! But when I gave my daughter up for adoption I still had swollen breast, and lactated for 9 months, I bled for 3 months, and also my MP was all funky for over a yr. Finally when I went to the dr she told me that when my daughter was born my body was ready to start doing motherly things like BF. But because it never happened my body was all messed up.

Blood test give a number of hcg in the system which is your pregnancy hormone. Most doctors dont consider it viable until its 20+ I would go back to the doctor and have them draw more blood.
