Rice Water

I'm curious if anyone else's pedi has suggested rice water for their baby or toddler when they are having GI issues.

My daughter saw her pedi today for constipation. We had to do a suppository and karo syrup in a bottle. He then suggested I give her rice water once a day for the next 2 days to help stop her from getting dehydrated bc the suppository.

I personally am not going to I had a hard enough time knowing she's not EBF now that she's had karo syrup and the apple juice water before to try to get her to go.

I don't know, but my pedi told me never to give my kids karo syrup. She said it can cause botchilishm(sp) like honey can.

Yeah, I was kinda like, huh? Cause literally everyone in the world uses Karo syrup. Lol

I didn't want to do it but 11 days was long enough. Even though they say breast fed babies can go 10 she was miserable.

That's so scary! Colt pooped 3 or more times a day as a breastfed infant. I hope her little tummy is ok!

Until then she went with every feeding. So it was scary. She had a huge poop, took a bath, nursed and passed out.  . Hopefully it gave her some relief and she can rest.

So odd how much pedis vary. We were always told to add an ounce of juice (apple or prune) to the bottle for constipation. The key is the sugar. Never heard of using rice water.8

We attempted juice first. It didnt help.

The rice water is def something new

I drink rice water myself when I have stomach flu like aches and pains but I never thought to give it for constipation in a newborn(is she still considered a newborn)

IF you try it let me know if it works. I understand being apprehensive. Have you tried prune juice?

My husband thinks I should try it but I'm nervous.

I didn't try prune. After the juice didn't work the doc said suppository and Karo syrup. She popped 30 min after and had a big grin. She also slept better last night than she has in a week.
