I dunno

but getting checked before you are in labor is pointless. I'd refuse it

It's invasive. It introduce bacteria into the vagina and cervix. It can cause bleeding. it can accidently rupture membranes.

And dilation is NOT an indicator of when you will go into labor. You can be 3-5 cms dilated for weeks before labor. Or be hard and closed and deliver an hour later.

Totally pointless

Quoting JudyRebecca:" Can having sex the day of or night before a dilation check/effacement check affect it? Like make it less or more? Probably a stupid question... But i've heard it before."

I went overdue and my midwife actually suggested feeling for my own cervix and pressing on it (which was as painful as she suggested it would be) to help thin it out and induce labour.
It worked, I went into labour that night.

So I presume sex would do the same thing just a more pleasurably way of doing it haha

Cause even if the dr says youre dialated at a 2... you could be a 2 for WEEKS.... it kinda makes you go into "crazy pregnant lady labor mode." To where you are determined to go into full blown labor SOON.
But, it is also fun to see if any of those here and there contractions have done anything too.

!!!

When I was checked - I was in labour however already - the doctor actually accidently broke my waters.

As long as your water has not broken you can have all the sex you want! The semen helps to thin your cervix anyways and can help speed up labor.

Woohoo! Someone who feels the same way I do about routine cervical checks  .

I also think that it can affect the mother's mood and expectations too much to be worth it. How many times do we see a mother write that she is already 37 weeks and her cervix hasn't started changing at all so she is concerned that she'll never go into labour. Or the woman who is 38 weeks and 3 cm dilated and is convinced she'll go into labour any minute, and ends up being induced at 41 weeks  .

I couldn't handle it, even though I know it means nothing (not an indication as to when labour will begin).

"I'm 37 weeks and 3 cms. Can I be induced? Clearly my body is ready."

I hate those posts.

Who said that?! Baby's come on their time not ours......some people.....the only reason to be induced that soon is for a medical emergency in which you or baby is in danger.

You've been here a while. Lots of women say that LOL

Then they get jumped on by the anti-induction police (I'm a proud member)
