Quoting Kelly&Coralie:" It's invasive. It introduce bacteria into the vagina and cervix. It can cause bleeding. it can accidently ... [snip!] ... You can be 3-5 cms dilated for weeks before labor. Or be hard and closed and deliver an hour later. Totally pointless"
Woohoo! Someone who feels the same way I do about routine cervical checks
I also think that it can affect the mother's mood and expectations too much to be worth it. How many times do we see a mother write that she is already 37 weeks and her cervix hasn't started changing at all so she is concerned that she'll never go into labour. Or the woman who is 38 weeks and 3 cm dilated and is convinced she'll go into labour any minute, and ends up being induced at 41 weeks
I couldn't handle it, even though I know it means nothing (not an indication as to when labour will begin).
