yours are long term patient's though.. do they have leg bags? if her bag burst.. the floor would be wet, as the bag hangs on the side of the bed

I have noo idea, I just remember telling my mom I wanted to change positions and she lifted up my blanket and was like OH MY GOD... and she went out into the hall and got a random nurse and the nurse was like .. your cathetar is full it should've been changed a long time ago.

doesn't make sense. Catheters don't get changed. and once your water breaks... you keep leaking so your bed would be wet the entire time you labored

Honestly, I've never had a baby before then and I had never had a catheter put in either so I really don't know how it works but I know my bag was completely full (when I said change the catheter I meant the bag not the actual part they put in) and the random nurse that helped actually came back in a few minutes letter with a form telling us to fill out a complaint so whatever it was, I probably shouldn't have been lying in it. They literally brought in another bed, lifted me up into that one and changed my gown so I guess it was alot, I just didn't feel anything at that point though.

Things are a bit different with our guys. At night we connect them to massive 4ltr overnight bottles. So the bag sits flat on the bed and the tubing runs down to where the bottles is on the floor. Sometimes you'll get a new person or someone whose distracted who put the patient to bed but forgot to open the valve and the bag fills up and then bursts ... Though generally the patient goes hyperdysreflexic before then but not always. It also happens sometimes when the young guys have their massive drinking sessions and get so drunk they forget to come and get their bags empties ... Idiots

Yeah they have leg bags usually the typical 750ml ones but some old timers still use the huge latex 'fish' which runs the entire length of the leg.

I see what you mean though, it's like if our overnight bottles overflow you're more likely to slip and fall on your ass than have to change a bed.

My overnight shift is about to start in just under 2 hours ... Fingers crossed for a quiet one.

I stopped reading after 4 pages, but I feel bad for some of you ladies. Terrible stuff. I've been fortunate enough to not have bad experiences with nurses.
Also, my sister is a nurse and sometimes I feel bad for her.
She doesn't have CNA's to do the "grunt work" so she's had to do all the nasty stuff herself.
Like dealing with an elderly prolapsed vagina, or cleaning peoples moldy fat rolls.
Then she was in ICU for a long time, so not so much nasty stuff, but she did have to deal with death a lot (she even took a seminar on coping with death and how to help the family's cope. Hearing everything she's told me over the years I have so much respect for nurses, I could never do their job).

I think my work needs to start giving us lessons on dealing with grief ... We have long term patients and we lose a lot and an alarming level. However all we're ever told is to leave work at the door ... That's it. We've all become so desensitised that when we lose someone now we end up either ignoring it or making jokes.

I know they make jokes too, we were watching something on tv once where some doctors or nurses were making a joke out of a dead patient (I can't remember anymore what it was) and when I made the     face she informed me that when you're dealing with death often, making light of the situation is one of the easiest ways to deal with it.
The seminar mostly dealt with helping the families cope, but I know it helped her a bit.
And there's moments that make up for all the death. Being the one to save the life of a 4 year old, and later having him thank her.....I still get misty eyed thinking about that.

When I was in labor with my son I wish they had given me a nurse at all. All I got was some woman coming in and telling me I need to keep it down. After my husband yelled at her she finally got someone to check me and I was 8cm dilated after only 2 1/2 hrs. He was born less then an hour and a half later.

When I was in labor with my daughter I wish I had a nurse who listened. I told them I was in a lot of pain that the meds weren't working and something was wrong. The doctor came in and said that I still had an hour before I could start pushing b/c I was only 8cm. Well my daughter had other plans b/c my body started pushing her out on it's own... she was born 2 mins later.

I am suppose to have a midwife this time, whom I have yet to meet b/c I just switched doctors. I really hope I have someone who takes me seriously and listens. This is my last shot to labor my way.

as a CNA i wish nurses didn't treat us like smurf, ( not saying you do that ) but alot of nurses think they are high and mighty over us.
