Finally!

posted 11th Jun '12
So if you've read my past posts about my relationship and how DH has been super smurffy since oh... December I think I've finally figured out what happened to our relationship.

In November DH got discharged from the Army because of an injury he received during the first few weeks of BCT. The first two weeks of him being home were amazing, the typical "honey moon" phase. But soon it went to smurf and he started to get distant, was gone a lot to the gym, working, or hanging out with the guys. This passed weekend was the last straw and things blew up. He told me he has been pulling away because he feels useless, pathetic, and just low about himself.

He said getting discharged was the worst thing to have ever happened to him. We had to move back in with his parents because money was too tight and I became pregnant with our second child. He said he felt worthless when he was discharged and even more so when he couldn't provide enough for his wife and son. Then when I got pregnant on top of all of that the stress really hit him and he just felt like we were better off when he was gone so he decided to be gone a lot more.

He admitted to struggling with depression and self-esteem issues ever since coming back and didn't know what else to do so he busied himself with work, friends, and working out to get back into shape for when he is able to re-enlist this December.

So now we will be going to counseling and hopefully I can find some way to help him see that he is not worthless and that our son and I need him around more. He also said he will not be gone as much anymore and if he does leave to hang out with friends he will take me and DS with him 80% of the time.
